Earthquake And Typhoons

November 27th, 2007

While Metro Manila is expecting the effects of super typhoons Mitag and Hagibis, an unexpected tremor jolted Manila and the northern part of Luzon. The epicenter was believed to be at Pangasinan province.

We were at the office and about to take lunch when the ground shook. Those inside the office stood and observed. Though sporting a worried look, all remained calm and waited whether the disaster drills the company have had will be put into use. None have panicked, thank heavens, otherwise, the rest may follow suite. A situation like that will not bring a value adding result.

Thank God the earthquake is not as strong as the one that wreck havoc to the same areas 17 years ago. I believe people, like me, who experienced the deadly earthquake on 1990, brought back memories of destruction, fear, death, pain, suffering, volunteerism and heroism.

Explosion, Again?!

November 14th, 2007

Update (11/19/07):

Update (11/15/07):

  1. Suspects of the bombing died in a shootout with military and police
  2. Stocks and peso-dollar closed slighly lower

This is the third blast, that affected greater Manila area, in two months. We have Glorietta 2, Sorrento Bacoor, and what transpired last night, the south wing of the Philippines House of Representatives. Per newspaper account, a Congressman from Mindanao, Wahab Akbar, was one of the 3 fatalities.

I hope explosions will not be a regular occurrence since this will not add value in any way in alleviating the social ills of ordinary people. I personally believed a statement was made with the latest blast. It can not be an accident nor caused by gas, rather it was intentional and what made it worse is it happened in one of the institutions of Government. It appears that security precaution will not be safe enough if perpetrators is determined to kill and create havoc.
