Carlo Ople of New Media Philippines published our casual talk about blogging, while having coffee somewhere in the jungle of Ortigas. I admire the guy for his conviction on value blogging and the role of social media in marketing. Go check his blog and learn from this all in one marketing guy.
Here’s a good read for all my blog buddies out there.
My friend Carlo, wrote an interesting piece about different types of bloggers. With the apparent embrace of business establishments of what social media and web 2.0 has to offer, bloggers are becoming on demand lately. Events are being organized here and there, intended for bloggers. These, however, also bring a black eye to the Philippine blogging community.
Accordingly there are bloggers who are ever present in events…. to get hold of the freebies. Hmmm.
I had fun yesterday teaching the graduating students and faculty members about Social Media and Personal Branding. Not that these people are naive of these tools, but they just use social media for fun and nothing more.
Blogs and Social Media, as web 2.0 enthusiasts already know, is a tool that can be used for and against us. The thoughts, pictures, vlogs and other stuff’s we share determine our online reputation.
I remember a colleague looking at a picture, published in a social media, of a former female employee lip/tongue locked with a female companion. Though my colleague did not say a word, his facial reaction speaks of the impression the picture generated.
One head hunter who got hold of my contact details thru this blog sent an email and requested for a comprehensive copy of my CV. An executive requirement of another company fits my credentials, according to the sender. I declined the request with due respect to my present employer.
On the other hand, an officer of a company employing 1000 employees called and invited me to facilitate a Substance Abuse orientation for a fee. The guy Googled “drug abuse” and ended up in the Drug Abuse series of this blog. Though this is an earning opportunity, I also declined since activities are not intertwined and policies and procedures on the item is not yet in place.
