It’s Not Goodbye

June 19th, 2008

Today is my last day as a Human Resource Manager from my employer of 10 years.

It was a rewarding and challenging career, I joined the company on 1998 as Training Officer. I was assigned in a center at QC and handled the in-house training programs and employee activities. Likewise, I’m part of the group that conceptualize and develop company wide corporate training programs. After about a year, we were  moved to the newly renovated and expanded training center to focus on developing company wide programs.

Since I intend to learn the different silos of people management, I requested to be transferred as an HR Officer. In the process, I was given promotion to be Human Resource Manager of an affiliate company. Six months after, I was confirmed to the position.

Remember

May 29th, 2008

I personally went to one of our centers last week to visit a pregnant staff to personally thank her for her support, hard work and dedication, and inform her also of my decision to accept an offer to be an Asst. Vice President of another company.  She’s on the last Q of her sensitive pregnancy and I don’t find it proper for her to travel all the way to the other end of the city for this. I can see both the excitement and hardship on her face brought about by this pregnancy.

My kids are now 11 and 9, but I still remember the first night with my boy when I sought the help of a nurse because I can’t make him stop crying. I feel so helpless specially that wifey is still recuperating from the C operation. I also remember the joy when our baby first smiled, the challenge of giving the first bath, first solid food and the elation when we see our baby make the first step.  Ohh that was a decade ago, I miss those times but, it does not mean I want another baby, he he he. It’s expensive to raise a child.

Please Pray For My Mom

May 21st, 2008

I just arrived home from the hospital where my mom is under observation. She looked stable but still in pain. Doctors said what happened is an effect of a stroke she experienced long time ago. It appears like another stroke, but it was not, doctors say it’s a convulsion or something.

While I believe on the wonders of science and medicine, I equally believed too on the goodness and the power of God. I will greatly appreciate if you can include her in your prayers. My mom’s name is Fe Esperanza Santos.

Tears In Heaven

November 8th, 2007

I almost shed tears while warming up at the lounge of Fitness First. I’m preparing for an early morning work-out when I read from the Inquirer the story of a young girl, Mariannet Amper from Davao, who committed suicide because of desperation. Prior to her death, she requested $ 2.35 from her parents for a long overdue project. Both struggled to produce the amount, but when the father was able to borrow money, it was too late. My emotionswas moved because I am also a father to a little girl and I also understand what it meant to be poor.

During the wake, the parents retrieved an unsent letter to “Wish Ko Lang” (can I wish) charity program and the letter is about the young girls’ request for a new bicycle, good health for her dad and a job for her parents. A diary was also recovered that revealed her eagerness to study. Her 2 days absence (for lack of money) is like a month, according to her.
