We started the year with a series on
HR 2.0, and we are attempting to establish whether the Human Resources Division can use web 2.0 applications in the performance of it's duties.
On our first issue, we defined
what web 2.0 is, to bring all of us together in common understanding. As a review, web 2.0 consists of three pieces, namely:
- Rich Internet Applications (RIA)-- this simply means bringing your desktop experience into the browser, i.e. drag and drop
- Service Oriented Architectures (SOA)-- part of SOA, is feeds and RSS wherein it makes your subscription experience pleasant
- Social Web -- As a non geek, this is the only piece that we can relate to because this is the end product wherein we, the end user becomes an integral part. These services include video and audio/podcast sharing like Youtube, Social Media like Facebook and LinkedIn, Blogs like Wordpress and Blogspot and Micro blogging like Twitter.
As a Human Resource practitioner, we will not concern ourselves with the 1st two pieces because only the 3rd piece can affect our work. Well, if you don't agree with me on this, just tell me if you don't have admin cases that is related to use of social media.
On my last post, for the benefit of new subscribers, we stepped backward by reviewing
what web 2.0 is. On this issue, allow me to discuss online reputation and responsible use of digital media.

In one fora, someone asked me, "sir, what is an online reputation?". I replied, "try typing your name in search engines [google, yahoo, bing] then analyze the results.
- What is on the first page?
- [assuming you own a blog or maintain different SNS accounts like Facebook & Twitter] Do you see your online accounts/profile?
- Are others talking about you?
- Can they find your work?
You may repeat the exercise, this time do it inside Social Networking Site where you maintain an account. i.e., Facebook, Multiply, Twitter, LinkedIn, Plurk.
We are in the age of digital media where distance and time is no longer an issue when accessing information. When your potential client or employer, or even old classmates or friends, or long lost relative tried to locate you using web 2.0 applications, they will do what you just did and may get similar results. Unless you don't like what your current online reputation is [or lack of it] and would want to take action.
In a post about 5 months ago, I briefly discussed about spiritual intelligence. I got several inquiries from students and managers alike since then. So please allow me to re-post an article I wrote years ago. This is also my advocacy, I will release a mini e-book on the subject soon and expect more from me on this subject.
In one forum there was this query:
I think quite a few of us believe in the inadequacy of traditional science being unable to explain our universe, being unable to explain how to have a positive attitude, and how to live. We believe that possibly, there are no accidents, and the life we are living in is our choice.
I want to learn from you on how to put this spirituality into a typical skill building training program.…. I believe that the key to helping people is not develop their skills, but to build that little voice they hear inside their head every now and then. The voice that is bereaving them from within, and is having a conversation with them… Is there anyone here who has attempted to do this wants to share the experience?
After Emotional Intelligence, analysts are now looking at Spiritual Intelligence (SI) as another means of addressing personal, business and career related quandary. While IQ and EQ are not new, SI is still in the infancy stage, at least in the Philippines. This article will discuss SQ and its connection to personal effectiveness and
career development.
