Proud of my kids [13 and 11 yrs. old], they switched off the lights, tv and computer even though they were left in the house and others in the building seemed to not care.
Wifey suggested to include recycling of water as one of the beyond the hour commitment. Wifey said laundry water can still be used for flushing the toilet and cleaning the dirty kitchen or the yard.
For the last 5 years, Earth Hour has continued to get the support of the communities in switching off lights for an hour. In the Philippines alone, 1076 towns, cities and municipalities participated in the Earth Hour on 2010. This year marks a stark difference in the objectives of the advocacy, no longer aiming for numbers, the turning off of lights aim for meaning.
Aside from encouraging Filipinos to switch off their lights from 8:30 – 9:30PM on 26 March 2011, World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF-Philippines) aims to go beyond the hour by launching a year-long information and education campaign on climate change for Filipino students, businesses, local government units.
As we observe Earth Hour this year, let’s adopt a lifestyle that will drastically reduce global warming. Simple habits such as biking for short travel, a paperless office, conserving water, using tote bags instead of plastic ones and unplugging unused appliances will do. These are doable except biking if you don’t own one, ha ha
Altering our lifestyle is not for us, but for our kids and grand kids. We have seen how drastic the extreme weather changes have been, we must act now before it is too late.
As a family, we are minimizing use of paper, conserving water and unplugging appliances not in use.
What about you? What can you do for mother earth after tonight’s earth hour?
This blog of 6 years is a witness to my ascendancy to executive HR position and my foolish attempt to start my own company, ha ha.
This blog used to be the depository of my thoughts about people management, social web and how to use this to build your personal brand. I have since diversified to niche blogging and decided to use this to keep my personal reflections.
