Social Media and Sports

April 19, 2009 · by Sonnie · Pilipinas, Sports

Late this afternoon, after I had my hair (or what is left of it, ha ha) trimmed, I fell asleep while trying to update this blog. I missed also the boxing match of Donaire and Viloria. Am not sure if this bout was shown live in theaters, but personally, I prefer watching live boxing involving Filipino greats like Pacquiao in cinemas. A little bit expensive, but I enjoy not only the comfortable home theater seating, the big screen and the electrifying energy of the audience add up to the adrenalin rush.

So upon waking up, I immediately checked the breaking news to find out who won. Both Filipino boxers won convincingly, I just have to stay late tonight to watch the replay. But what caught my attention is the news article written by Alexander Villafania. His article is entitled Filipino Boxer Tweets His Way To Victory. Twitter is one of the social media/micro blogging platforms available on the net. And not only more people are using it, mainstream media finds it worth the news.

As a blogger, I maintain an account on most social media platforms, but I am most active on Facebook, Multiply, LinkedIn, Twitter and Plurk. I use these to touch base with friends, for professional networking, personal branding and for marketing purposes.

Viloria as a boxing champ learned how to use social media to his side, unfortunately some people (of older generation) have not crossed over yet. Have you?
