I was at Powerbooks yesterday and had a chance to meet in person, Joy Rojas, who is set to fly to the US to become the first South East Asian woman and first Filipina to run from California to New york. She hopes to run a total of 5,000 km, from May to September of 2009.
Joy Rojas, is one of the country’s top female finisher of 42 k runs, but she also participated in the 1,929 Km multi day run dubbed Trans-Philippines Visayas leg. And in 2005, she became the first woman to ever ran 2,000 km from Davao (in Mindanao) to Pagudpod (Ilocos). This project was dubbed “Hakbang Pangarap”.
With the 2000 km feat, Joy began dreaming of running across America. And that dream is set to materialize with the project “Takbong Pangarap”. She will attempt to run 50 km daily for 100 days, starting at Eagle’s rock California on May 10, 2009, all the way to New york. To get to her destination, she will pass thru these states:
This run also hopes to raise funds for the Social Services Division of the Philippine Heart Center and the Anti- TB Program of the inner wheel club of QC DIstrict 378.
If you share the same passion with Joy, or you are a Filipino living in the US or a someone who would like to help, here are a few ways to do it
