Blogging and CSR

I was invited to a sumptuous dinner last night at ABE Restaurant at Serendra, The Fort, Global City, with other bloggers and traditional media representatives.

The event is all bout the tripartite project of Blas Ople Foundation, OWWA and Microsoft Philippines. They hosted a dinner for the graduates of their training center for OFW’s and their dependents. The training is modular and participants are trained on micro business, financing and IT. Microsoft provides software and/or cash grants to NGO’s who run the centers, and OWWA ensures the target beneficiaries are reached by the program.

This is a kind of Corporate Social Responsibility that I find sustainable given the dependence of our local economy to remittances from Filipinos working abroad. I also find the objective noble because they do not only educate OFW families how to stay connected on the net, they also prepare OFW to become netrepreneurs .

According to Laurie Mae Moreno, PR & Community Affairs Manager of Microsoft Philippines, they started the project way back 2003 and the training centers expanded not only to different urban centers in the Philippines but also in countries where Filipino OFW’s are concentrated.

A toast for a great endeavor.
