Blog Hack & A Wedding

December 23rd, 2008 · by Sonnie · Ask Sonnie, Of Love, Salt and Light, Stories that Coach

dessFinally, this blog is up and kicking again after 2 or 3 days in hiatus. This site was hacked and malicious scripts were injected to it’s root folders resulting to missing php’s. Thanks to Jez for his assistance.

As you probably noticed, Sonnie’s Porch was in semi-hibernate mode for about 2 weeks, providing only short updates and picture sharing. Blame it to budget preparation and business planning, blogging & work, at times, don’t blend well. I hope with the long Christmas vacation, I’ll be providing regular updates with value adding content that  everyone expected.

Let me start by blogging about the wedding of a person dear to us.  As I shared in my Plurk page, the wedding made me teary eyed for 2 reasons:

  1. I remembered my own wedding and the vow I made to my wife 16 years ago-  As I see Bryan, the groom, wept as they exchange vow’s,  I remembered myself weeping as I see my bride walk the aisles 16 years ago.
  2. Likewise, the bride, Dess,  is dearly loved by wifey and myself.

After seeing Dess and the rest of the ladies again for a looong while,  Girlie (US base now), Tarry & Bong,  brought back memories of the  early 90′s when they’re still students then at PWU and I am a skinny youth worker in the church. Unfortunately, Belle,  another friend,  who is also in the US, is not around. These people shared a significant part of my Christian life as we grew together in the Lord. And during the darkest period of  my marriage and Christian life,  they quietly stood by our side and kept the friendship, that meant a LOT to us.

All throughout the wedding ceremony and the reception program, memories of the past kept flashing in my mind, those were the days of  friendship and love, passion for the ministry and deep love for God. Ohh time flies, it’s almost 20 years since then. Now I have 2 kids, Tarry have 3,  Girlie  is about to have one and Dess had just started a new chapter in her life with Bryan.

I hope this blog will serve as memento of  the love my wife and I have for these ladies (and now with the man and kids of their life): Dess, Tarry, Girlie, Bong & Belle. Do know that we cherish the friendship and keep in mind that we’re just around …

For my kids who are also reading this blog, the content  may not mean anything to you now,  just cherish the friendship you have with people, and as you grow old,  you will understand.

And to the newly weds, Dess and Bryan, thank you for the privilege to be part of your wedding. I hope our 16 years (and counting) experience in marriage can add value to yours.  Always be truthful to each other and discuss issues even though it’ll hurt. Stand by each other’s side and keep the vow you made to God for each other.  And hope to see you in Singapore next summer!
