The 2nd Wealthiest Nation In Asia
This video is must see for all Filipinos. Specially those, like me, have no recollection of the Philippines when it was the 2nd wealthiest nation in Asia, after Japan. Citizens of other countries, like Henry Sy Sr ( a Chinese-Filipino who became one of the wealthiest man in the world) is a poor boy then from China migrated to the Philippines in search for a better future. He found his future and grew his business empire here. He and his family kept believing in the potential of the Philippines despite criticism from other Filipinos who gave up and migrated to another country. The Philippines was envied by other Asian nations then. Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan and South Korea don’t ring a bell during those times. Look at how developed we were before the 2nd World War. No wonder Japan invaded us despite the fact that Manila is supposed to be an open city. Look at the places then and compare it with the images today. Video clip courtesy of The Travel Film Archive

thanks for sharing the video not only as a reminder of glory past , nor of glory lost, but to re-aline ourselves again of what could be again, if only we have the self respectneded, and to bond together and stop steping upon each other. true unity for the betterment of the whole. this entials self sacrifice ofcoures which none of our present leaders know or whant to do, and sadly none of our fellowmen realize. we still vote stupidly kasi.
@ Manilenya– it’s nice to look at Escolta during it’s hey days. Have you noticed the Trambia? Taft Ave. with all of it’s trees and UP Manila?
@ Rico– Pinoys need to get their acts together. We are so liberal and democratic that we always argue our way.
SIr SOnny,
can you emphazise more on how Henry Sy uses confucian beliefs in handling his business? and also John GOkongwie if he also follows confucian practices.. pls. tnx a lot..

Thanks for sharing Sonny, there aren’t pretty much difference then and now, except of course the color of the video lol! The dresses yeah, we changed a lot in terms of that. But if we are in India, I’m sure we will dress like what we dress before. Meaning our culture was already forgotten. Well, what you will expect if you’ve got raped so many times…you tend to change of course.
It’s nice to see how my (ours) city look likes in old times.
