Worth Your Brain Cells

Last Sunday while in church, a worship song taken from Micah 6:8 made me reflect for a while about my actions and decisions both at work and  life in general.

And what does the LORD require of you?
(1) To act justly and (2) to love mercy
and (3) to walk humbly with your God.

My brain went to work and here’s the output, read along it’s worth your brain cells:

ACT JUSTLY

The higher you climb the corporate ladder, decision making becomes a burden. Your decision will affect not only a person, but his/her family and even society as a whole.

Personally, though I recognize that while  I can not please everybody, I can ensure I’ll have peace with myself when and if I am certain I acted fairly.

LOVE MERCY

Who am I, what I have and what I will become is because of the goodness of God. I am nobody without the grace and mercy given by the Creator. Having said this, I find it only proper to pass it on, in my own little and limited way, to people.

We are unsure of what the future will bring us. Who knows, we may be a recipient of mercy from the same people that we are suppose to show mercy now.

Consider this story from a colleague.

A big universal bank (bank A), still small and struggling then,  have problems of employees leaving for  greener pasture. The manager of bank A,  have spoken and requested  the resigning employees to reconsider their decision and look at the potential of the company. But a few of the resigning employees had an attitude and left the company for a bigger bank (bank B). Fast forward to the future, bank A grew and became powerful and eventually bought bank B. The right to choose who among the employees of bank B to retain and fire was given to bank A.

Guess what? The same manager of  bank A, who was on a weaker bargaining position then, has the power to retain or remove former employees who was in the strong bargaining position then.

Funny, isn’t it?

WALK HUMBLY

Arrogance and pride comes before downfall. Wealth has the potential to change people’s attitude.

My children are fortunate to enjoy child life with something that wifey and I don’t have when we were kids.  The seed of arrogance and prejudice is present and unless uprooted, this will make a monster out of our kids.

Once, when we were at an Eco Park and about to have lunch in a nearby store, wifey and I ordered grilled fish and salted egg, and it will be served in banana leaf. Upon seeing the food and the hut that we’re suppose to eat, one of my kids said  “ayyy pang mahirap yan” (it’s only for the poor).  I immediately corrected  my kid and put her mindset on the right perspective.

I believe to be able for us to walk humbly is to recognize what I stated earlier, “who we are, what we have and what we will become” os because of the enabling and goodness of the Creator.
