Fire At ThePlanet
upate 6/3/08: Entrecard and Statcounter are both running as of yesterday.
This one should not concern all unless, like me, you are using Entrecard and Statcounter. Both sites are down.
The Planet, 2nd to IBM in terms of number of employees, the 4th largest hosting provider of websites and the most reliable and redundant data center facilities, caught fire affecting the more than 3M websites hosted to their servers, including Entrecard and Statcounter.
According to the latest update:
The Planet has confirmed that no servers were damaged. The cause of the fire appears to be an explosion that was caused by a short in some electrical equipment. The explosion took out 3 walls in the building. The Planet says some servers will be back up by tomorrow afternoon.
However, based on the email I received, the outage is expected to last from 12 to 24 hrs.

Fortunately, it looks like Entrecard is back up and functioning pretty well now, so it seems that the outage has simply given us a one-day vacation from our dropping routines. For me this was a welcome break because I managed to log in shortly after the site came back online and was able to scoop up some relatively inexpensive advertising deals.
@ECL– good to hear that you’re son is improving. I hope the doctors will soon find out what’s causing all of the pain.
@ Karl– the inexpensinve ad deals is something I missed. Too bad
