Drug Abuse Prevention (1): Anti Substance Abuse Campaign
At the beginning of this month, we kicked off an information campaign about substance abuse and it’s physiological and psychological effects. We started out with sessions for the executives before going to the lower ranks. After the information campaign, drug testing will commence.
Having partnered with people who are experts on substance abuse provided an opportunity for me to understand the damning effects of substance abuse. Though detoxifying oneself from the substance of dangerous drug is possible, drug treatment takes both the will power of the person and the support his/her love ones.
On this issue, allow me to share briefly, the prevailing circumstances why an individual have tried a dangerous drug in the in the Philippines
- Poverty– rugby prevents a user from feeling hungry for 24-48 hours
- Lack of affection in the family
- Peer Pressure
- Curiosity
- Boredom
The last four reasons, IMO, has something to do with parenting, emotional support, and the values inculcated on the children. The earliest age, on record, that an individual have tried a dangerous substance is 10 yrs old, reason being is violence in the family.
