Remember the 1998 movie “Enemy Of The State” featuring Will Smith and Gene Hackman? This sci-fi movie suggested that one day, technology will be able to track the movement of objects and people.Ten years after, this concept is now a reality, thanks to Global Positioning System or GPS. Originally developed by the US Gov’t for military use, but in 1983, when Soviet Jet Interceptors shot down Korean Airlines Flight 007 and killing everyone on board, then US President Ronald Reagan ordered to open this facility for public use as soon as the project is completed.To date, only the US has full functional system but similar technology is being developed or near completion in Russia, Europe, China and India.How GPS Work?The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a satellite-based navigation system made up of a network of 24 satellites orbiting the earth. GPS works in any weather conditions, anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day.
