This Christmas season, my division (Human Resources) decided to forgo our plan to have Christmas dinner and use our budget instead, to “adopt a family”.
The birthday of the LORD Jesus is suppose to be value adding and special, unfortunately, some families can’t distinguish the occasion because of poverty. Thus, this project was conceptualized.
Each of my staff will recommend a family (they know) and we’ll decide as a group to chose the recipient. We’ll consider the following in the selection process:
- Decency/ Lifestyle
- we find it inappropriate to bless someone who is in need but still wastes money on gambling, alcohol
- Degree of poverty
- the family that needed the most assistance
We’ll use our money to buy food for “Noche Buena” and if budget permits, clothes for the kids. My group can come up with Php 3,000.00 or US $ 72.00 for one family. And if other people will join us on this project (consequently more budget), we can adopt another family.
We will visit the chosen family after office on Dec. 22, 2007 to give our gifts.

Its been my family’s practice to do this every Christmas. Weeks before Christmas, I go around looking for families who live in “karitons”. Before midnight of the 24th, my kids and I deliver Noche Buena for them. I am glad that you are making Christmas a little merrier for those in need.
Hi Schumey,
Same here, I led my staff to do the same thing for 2 reasons (1) iImbibe the value of giving despite being in a challenging situation and (2) blessings flow to generous people.
We had a great time. Watch out for the pics and the field report.
