Something To Look Forward

I’m suppose to blog a different topic but after watching the movie trailers of the 2007 Metro Manila Film Festival entries, I changed my mind. While you can still expect servings of horror, comedy, fantasy and action movies during this edition of the annual film fest, this particular movie will make you face issues that society tend to ignore or dismiss in favor of economics. The trailer caught my attention, and everyone inside SM Mall Of Asia’s Directors Club. It appears that the movie can enlighten teenagers, young parents and even senior citizens of the benefits and consequences of distant parenting, and the downside of the Filipino culture/tradition of supporting the extended family.

The movie is about a family where the dad is a returning OFW (overseas Filipino worker). On the scenes presented, it reflected social issues that every OFW must face. Marriage problem, children not knowing their dad and appreciating the dad’s sacrifices, abusive extended family, and the father who seems to be not in touch with the present socio-cultural trend. The father himself struggled on making the right choice: to stay and be with his family who seems to be more comfortable without him around, and the extended family who is not willing to lose support and help extended to them.

I’m no movie buff but I look forward to watching this value adding film. I believe this movie is worth watching. The story can cater to pre teens and teens, parents, OFWs and would be OFWs, and if you are part of the extended family and beneficiary of an OFW.

This is almost a true to life story as I have seen the same things happened to the families of some people I know.

By the way, the title of the movie is Ang Pagbabalik Ni Oca “Katas Ng Saudi”. Sorry Reyville, I got mixed up.
