Page Rank, Profit & Integrity Of Blogs

Update (12/07/07):

It was reported that after the PR downgrade Google will soon gun the SERPs of blogs who buy and sell links.

I got hold of this news via e-mail, TechCrunch just reported that Google slammed PayPerPost bloggers.

The blogosphere is filled with thoughts on this issue, and the controversy, in my opinion, is boiled down to profit and integrity of blogs.

In a nutshell, the major points of the debate is the PR (Page Rank) downgrade of blogs who have affiliation with PayPerPost, ReviewMe or those involve in buying and selling of links. You may read this post from Google Operating System.

On the other hand, the people affected by this downgrade believe Google is just protecting their own Adsense program, thus, have no moral ascendancy to be the judge. You may read this post from IZEA

A lesson can be learned though, to be value adding, from this development. The image and reputation of a blog (brand management), while making money, is equally important.

What is your take on the issue?

I’m not really a fan of the paid post model, it just doesn’t feel right for me. Then again I did dabbled with it when the school fees needed to be paid real quick! ;)

It just proves that you need to be real careful when trying to “fool” Google into something. The PayPerPost model has a legit case, but it is questionable and one should stay away from questionable.

Hi Sonnie - I must confess that I don’t feel sorry for them. To me, pay per post is just like those advertorials you read in magazines.
