A Peek At SM’s Science Discovery Center

Update (10/16/07): Opening to the public will be on October 20, 2007. Entrance Fee is PhP 330.00 or US $ 7.70 . Camera/picture taking is allowed except inside the planetarium. For booking inquiries, please call Alex at (632) 556-0331

Update (9/30/07) : I’m suppose to bring the whole family today upon the invitation of a colleague since it’s SDC’s (Science Discovery Center) open house for it’s employees’ families and friends. Unfortunately, my daughter is down with fever and wifey has to attend to her. It’s another father and son affair Sunday morning but definitely a great bonding time. My son enjoyed the science stuff’s and the planetarium experience. Because of this, my daughter can’t wait for her turn to visit SDC next week.

=====

SM Mall of Asia’s Science Discovery Center will open to the public on mid October, but a colleague invited me to have a look at the Philippines’ first after the Planetarium project of the late President Marcos at Rizal Park.

I remember our school tour at the Planetarium in Luneta on the early 80’s (or late 70’s, I think, can’t remember exactly :-) ) and ’twas an amazing experience. This one, however, is a little different since aside from the planetarium, students are treated to a lot of science stuffs like earthquake simulator, virtual coral reefs, robotics, media city and a lot more. I can’t wait to bring my kids.

Though the center is not open yet to the public, they are now accepting booking for school tours at discounted price, here are some of the pics:

Hi Mr. Sonnie! I think this will really be great for kids (and adults as well). How much kaya is the entrance fee?

  8. October 2nd, 2007 at 12:00 | #8

    Hi Carina,

My son had so much fun, specially at virtual city. He played virtual basketball , no cable, joystick or game pad. He played using his own body movement.

With regards to EF, I will ask first and post it here later, I may give a wrong figure. You can also send SMS to Mr. Jay, HR Manager. His number is posted in my previous reply.

    Thanks for the visit.

We went to MOA yesterday just simply to try this new attraction. I was with my wife and my 4 kids of which one is just exactly 1 year old. We had to bring him along coz his nanny has to take the day off.

MY GOLLY, WE WERE VERY, VERY DISGUSTED AND DISSAPPOINTED WIH THE SM SCIENCE AND DISCOVERY CENTER!!!

I cannot fathom why they would open this to the public at the same entrance fee rate of Php 350.oo when almost half of the 11 attractions (5 out of 11) are still not operational!

What also pissed me off is the sheer greed of the management to consider kids as young as one year old to be at the same rate!!! Can they not even consider them free or even half the price? If they want the money badly, why dont they charge even the fetus inside a pregnant mother

    November 15th, 2007 at 21:51 | #34

I would like to know if all 11 part of the activity center is already open to the public. I have heard that two week ago, only 5 of the 11 were open so the person who commented this was very disappointed.

  35. November 27th, 2007 at 11:16 | #35

    @ Kiel,

I forwarded your feedback at SDC Management and you were sent an email copy furnished this blogger, which I will quote in part

“My sincerest apologies if we were not able to satisfy your expectations. However, let me clarify the concerns you mentioned in your email:

    - On the ticket price, we offer only P330.00 for both adult and kids. Children below 24 inches in height are free to enter the center.
    - For the galleries, all eleven (11) are already open to the public, but I think during the time of your visit some elements on five (5) galleries are not 100% fully operational due to the adjustments and fine tuning we are still doing on the softwares and control systems during that time. However, all the other elements in the rest of galleries are already working and can be accessed by the public. We had also placed an advisory in our ticket booth during that time to inform guests of the on-going adjustments so they can decide if they will proceed with their visit.

If you feel what we did is not enough, once again our apologies but rest assured we are doing everything to improve our operation and address the concerns raised upon us. We also thank you for giving us such feedbacks as these will certainly help us improve our service and offerings.

We hope we can invite you again in the near future so we can show you what our center is truly all about.”

@ Mar– All elements are open now

@ Mar and Kiel– You may call the Operations Head, Mr. Ronwell Bete at 5560331.
