A Peek At SM’s Science Discovery Center

Update (10/16/07): Opening to the public will be on October 20, 2007. Entrance Fee is PhP 330.00 or US $ 7.70 . Camera/picture taking is allowed except inside the planetarium. For booking inquiries, please call Alex at (632) 556-0331

Update (9/30/07) : I’m suppose to bring the whole family today upon the invitation of a colleague since it’s SDC’s (Science Discovery Center) open house for it’s employees’ families and friends. Unfortunately, my daughter is down with fever and wifey has to attend to her. It’s another father and son affair Sunday morning but definitely a great bonding time. My son enjoyed the science stuff’s and the planetarium experience. Because of this, my daughter can’t wait for her turn to visit SDC next week.

=====

SM Mall of Asia’s Science Discovery Center will open to the public on mid October, but a colleague invited me to have a look at the Philippines’ first after the Planetarium project of the late President Marcos at Rizal Park.

I remember our school tour at the Planetarium in Luneta on the early 80’s (or late 70’s, I think, can’t remember exactly :-) ) and ’twas an amazing experience. This one, however, is a little different since aside from the planetarium, students are treated to a lot of science stuffs like earthquake simulator, virtual coral reefs, robotics, media city and a lot more. I can’t wait to bring my kids.

Though the center is not open yet to the public, they are now accepting booking for school tours at discounted price, here are some of the pics:

    I think me and my family will be trying out this place despite some negative feedbacks that I’ve read so far. :)

    One suggestion thou. I think it will benefit and attract consumers more if you will give half price rates discount for kids (let’s say 2yrs to 5yrs old). Making it free for babies (1 yr old) is just right but not a plus factor because how could babies understand those things inside the center? For example, Disneyland and Ocean Park in HK gives special rates to children and senior citizens. I think everyone have this same thought. :)

    Hi guys,
    I’m Regine! One of the students of Royal Era Academy…
    It was our Educational Tour/ Field Trip yesterday (Aug. 26, 2008) and we went on your place named SCIENCE DISCOVERY CENTER…
    Your place was so cool & I really enjoy being there.
    I love the planetarium, the Earthquake experience, and most of all MISTER TITAN the fish. I like that fish and it was fun talking with him. But I know that he’s just a human, too. LOL
    I also love the games.
    Guess what??!! I’m so amazed with the technology your place have.
    I love the towers, sniff sniff and the media city…
    “KEEP IT UP GUYS”

    is it advisable for preschoolers to go to SDC? just thinking they may not understand yet the scientific principles.. coz actually due to financial reasons we have to choose just between Ocean Park and SDC for our whole school. ive decided SDA for bigger kids to HS. but preschoolers, kinda difficult also to handle them, moa is soooo big… what do you think, Ocean park or SDC for little kids? can i have it asap? i need to submit the proposal by nov. 3-4, next week already. thank you!!!
