Basketball Championships And Parenting

After church, I tagged my two kids and off we go to Araneta Coliseum to watch the championship match between SMC-Pilipinas and Lebanon, and the game 5 of the Alaska and Talk n Text tussle at the Philippine Basketball Association. Our national team won the title with Lebanon 2nd and Syria 3rd by virtue of winning against China in the battle for 3rd place. Because of the kids schooling tomorrow, we left for home before the game 5 of Alaska against Talk n Text starts.
The atmosphere is festive all thru out the game with Philippine flags waived here and there with wild cheering from the crowd with the drums and bugle in the background. Added bonus is the presentation of UST’s cheering squad.
It was a great bonding time with my kids, and I think a sense of nationalism was inculcated on them as they waive the RP flags and cheer for the national team. Our energy and focus was on the game. My 8 year old daughter can even recall the players specially Jimmy Alapag. My kids have seen them before at ESPN during the Jones Cup. Of course, the occasion provided another opportunity for all of their “what’s and why’s?” probing. But it’s ok, I want them to ask even the silliest questions in life, “investing” time with them is what matters. Later on, we have sufficient investments to “withdraw” specially when they need to ask “serious” questions, and when the “asking” and the kind of “questions” matter.

Thanks Odette for the tickets. I owe you one.

Aside:
Up close with the players, we noticed varying body marks on the different athletes, thus giving cool tattoo ideas to some. If the RP team will win and/or qualify for the Olympics at Japan tournament before the end of the month, we may see a resurgence of fashion tattoos or body marks among the youth.

Can somebody tell me where I can find an online video of the championship game or any game during this tournament?
Hope this would be a start of something big for Philippine basketball.
It sounds great!A lot of jubilation there!.It is good to have fun for as the saying goes–All work and no play make Jack to be a dull boy and vice versa.
Regards.
I’m a big fan of basketball. Thanks for the pic!
