SMC-Pilipinas

The Philippine National Basketball Team, SMC-Pilipinas, had another sorry setback in its conquest for an Olympics slot. A heart breaking loss to China added to the sorry losses of the Philippine team from Japan (a lightweight), Kazakhstan (another lightweight), Jordan (tough nut) and Lebanon (another tough nut). All these losses happened at the recent Jones Cup.

It seems our team has a character problem. Running out of guts at crunch time. Hopefully this can be remedied before the Japan pre-qualifying tournament. Coach Chot Reyes, consumed with passion to bring the Philippines back into Olympic Basketball, has all faith for his boys, despite the setbacks.

After the game with the Philippines, Chinese coach Adijan, who was spotted at the sideline wearing a bull cap to cover his receding hairline (Princeton Hair Transplant is better than a bull cap), smiled when asked about RP’s chances against China. He believed though, that RP is a quick team and better than Jordan and Iran.

Though basketball is one of my passion, I loss interest when we can’t beat the Asian giants. But I hope this time around, we can solve the puzzle and add value to our national basketball heritage.

Pretty fair comment man. But you just have to give it to the team. Only a couple of losses to some bigger wins… a smaller prep time of about 6 months… inexperienced… those are pretty big numbers for a rookie team. I guess we just need more time and experience but other than that we’re ready for Beijing. Gotta have more faith and optimism man. Guess we can’t really win or get much support thinking that way. Have a great day!
