Of WordPress 2.2 and Spams

WordPress 2.2

My blog is into version 2.2 already for almost a week. Thanks to Jhay, whom I sought the assistance for the seamless upgrade. We have to fix a few bugs though and it took us a little while because of the handful plug ins this blog employs. Jhay, diligent as he is, ensured that all plug ins are upgraded and suitable to this version. So far, I find the latest WordPress version faster and easier to work around.

Spams

I have to contend with the 300++ spam comments a day. Thanks to the Akismet plugin, these comments does not find it’s way into the blog. However, precious time is wasted going thru spam comments to de spam a valid comment. In an average, one or 2 valid comments per month is erroneously classified as spam. With due respect to the followers of this blog, their feedback and input is valuable as it facilitates learning to all. With the older version of WordPress, I can view all spam comments in one page, but with the 2.2 version, a maximum number can only be displayed per page, thus, the more spams you have, the more pages you have to browse. Maybe, there is a setting somewhere that I need to tweak to suit my need that I have yet to discover.

  1. You’re welcome Sonnie. I never knew you had so many plugins. ;)

Anyways, Akismet seems to be acting up a little, ever since the upgrade, most of the comments I had to moderate were actually spam.

Perhaps it’s something to do with the new version of WP.

  2. I’ve been thinking of upgrading to WP 2.2. Mine is currently in version 2.1.2. Is it really worth all the hassle? I’m sort of lazy doing this kind of thing. Hehe. What do you think?

  3. @ Jhay– I have a long term project that I would like to venture with you.. have to check lang some legal implications.

@ Prudence– It’s worth the trouble (at least for me since am having interface problem with the old version). However, as the saying goes “if ain’t broken, why fix?”

  4. That’s what I thought, too. So I’m postphoning my upgrade to 2.2. I’m a simple blogger and I only need simple blogging tools :-)

  5. @ Sonnie: Really? Wonder what it is, and what legal implications are you checking. :D
