Power Failure

It has been a long while since Spiderman made it’s debut on the silver screen but until today, the word of uncle Ben still reverberate in my ears, “with much power, comes much responsibility”.

Yuppies have the goal to succeed and to have a decent life. Equally aggressive are blue collar workers who also demand better pay and working condition. But some of these people are hardly reliable. Likewise, a few have ventured into entrepreneurship to have control of their own time.

Some have ventured into blogging as well, with the intention to generate traffic to their blogs and eventually earn thru ads and sponsorship .

To desire a decent life is a noble goal, but it seems not all understand the prerequisite. To have “more”– wealth and power, one must also have bigger and sturdier shoulders to carry “more” responsibility and accountability.

I don’t only mean the endurance and strength to handle additional workload, but also the strength of character to resist corruption. The greatest battle is not with the opponent, but with oneself. Our level of success is dependent on our ability to resist and withstand pressures that goes with power and wealth.

Bloggers are not also free from pressure– . Perhaps the bloggers prayer, though became controversial, during PBA 2007, represents the temptation that bloggers face.

You may have witnessed some relationships and organizations break apart because of the corruption of power and wealth– the family, gov’t., business and bloggers community are not immune.

As a young dad, I do my share to expose my kids to basic principles of life. As they learn, they are given additional tasks “plus” the perks that goes with it. My 9 year old son would love to seat beside the drivers seat, and he will volunteer to always start the car engine. But we made him aware of the responsibility and our expectations– to be Papa’s 2nd eye on the road, to read signs and symbols that I may miss.

One time, I was apprehended by a traffic cop for turning right. I missed the sign that prohibits such while on red signal. Because of that, my son was relegated to the backseat. Much as he wants to have the partial control of the car, i.e. cd player and air con, he lost the power.

As we aspire to succeed in our career or business or blogs– always think ala Spiderman, “with much power comes much responsibility”.

don’t forget to include… “need more time” because as I’ve experienced it.. 24 hours is not enough when we get more responsibilities.

Also, sometimes the power vanishes or will be gone when we forget one or even just a little part of that reponsibility.

I agree Chino, we eventually lose something if we fail to recognize it is ours.

Very nice thought … and analogy. Every person would easily relate to and understand it that way. I really meant every as I think nobody would dare tell they don’t know Spiderman [and Uncle Ben’s lecture]. :P

Oh, just so you know, I’m Spidey’s fan since I was a little kid—have been a follower ever since. ;)

Thanks for sharing, I will keep this in mind. Since my son is still very young, I don’t need to do this yet. However, when the time comes, I will also do the same for my kid. :D

@ Aja– before the release of the first of the spiderman installments, am no fan. But, like you, I followed it since then because of the nuggets of wisdom you can get. The entertainment is just the bonus. I visit your blog once in a while and I can say that you are a geek to the 2nd power. I can’t relate to your site man. I have research to understand your stuff :-)

@ Jaypee– you’re welcome. You really got me on your b5 media post, :-)
