If you want to expand your network or add a badge to your credentials, then plan to attend a conference, convention or training program. Its either you or your sponsor will shell out a substantial amount for the investment, therefore, give special attention to details.

Depending on a lot of things, duration of the activity will vary. Normally, big events would last for 3 days and 2 nights. The last night is the best part. A great buffet is served, food may vary depending on the participants choice or the host city— choices of Asian, Mediterranean or the great Italian delicacies that San Diego banquets is known for. Likewise, sponsors would try to outshine each other thru their raffle giveaways.

The objectives for gathering of this nature, of course, is profit for the organizer, added value for the participants (and networking) and exposure/ mileage to the sponsors.

To ensure that you get the best out of any gathering you wish to attend, go and check the following:

  • Who is the organizer– Normally, it’s the organizers’ reputation that would add value to you.
  • What are the topics and who are the speakers– is this your need?
  • Where will the event be held– go and spy out the place for leisure and safety considerations
  • Availability of alternate hotels– just in case their bookings got screwed or you have a limited budget
  • Availability of transportation to and from your destination
  • Internet connection– if you are a blogger like me or a netrepreneur
  • Location of money changer and your embassy– if you will go to another country
