On my way to the main mall of SM Mall of Asia, I noticed a “Jaguar” parked not so far from where my car was parked. I first thought, “do we have an exotic car dealer in the Philippines?” I mean, this car is expensive and who would dare venture selling this brand in a Toyota and Honda country?
After a while, I remembered reading a post about the psychology of “high end brands”. What will make people spend so much money on certain product? Is it Quality? Service? Performance? Nope, it is the idea of “exclusivity”– the privilege that they belong to an exclusive few or the privilege that they are an exemption to the norm.
In a country where 80% of its wealth is owned by 20% of it’s citizen– a market for high end brands thrive! In fact, it was reported a few months back that the expensive cars used by the dignitaries of the ASEAN delegation at Cebu City was reportedly sold out long before the ASEAN conference has started. With the advent of OFWs and the growing middle class, I certainly hope the wealth are slowly distributed until it trickles down to the ordinary folks.
Looking at the Jaguar and my 2006 Rio from a distance, well…. I will have to be content with what I have, I don’t belong (yet) to the exclusive 20% of our society. Though one day, I would love to own a BMW
What about you, what is your dream car?
My dream car would either be a BWM or a Ferrari. I’ve seen a Ferrari F50 once on display at a showroom in Tagaytay City back when I was still in highschool. It was so cool, I wanted to buy it. In my dreams of course…;)
My dream car would be a McLaren F1. Sadly, it’s been a long way out of production before I could get my hands on to hundreds of thousands or possibly millions of dollars with only 107 (including the 7 prototypes) units built. Now I really want an Enzo Ferrari, which was also out of production with 400 units built. Do dreams really come true? LOL
Hi.My dream car is either a Musso or a pajero.I pray about it daily. I haven’t bought a car yet but what i know is that ” a journey of a thousand miles starts with one step”.Iam now making arrangements of joining a driving school so that i can get adriving licence and i believe that i will drive before long.May Almighty God honour my desire and make it come true soon.
Regards.
God bless you mightily.
Margaret or Maggie.
@ Jhay and Aja– yes dreams do come true. Faith in God, oneself and hard/smart work will bring you there.
@ Margaret– you already made a step of faith. Before I had my car, I had my license renewed a year prior. Remember that every good and perfect gift comes from above. Keep believing, God loves you so much.
Hmmm… my dream car would be a Ford Expedition or any comfortable SUV that I can use to travel around the Phils. But I think a yacht would be better since the Phil has many islands =)
hmmm… My dream car would be a Ford Expedition or any SUV that I can use when I want to travel around Phil. But I think a yacth would be better to go around the country. Hehe. That would be my ultimate dream vehicle =)
Go for it Redge! Dreams can be realized..
