Another Speak And Surf FeedBack

January 22, 2007 · by Sonnie · Speak n Surf, Technology

update (12/17/07):

because of difficulty making and connecting calls, and slow internet connections, I finally returned my SnS and discontinued my subscription effective today. A promising product that can’t take off because of frequency limitations.

As promised by the technical people of Globe, the internet connection stabilized on Jan. 15, 07. I think Globe’s internet service was badly damaged by the Taiwan earthquake. But I am becoming frustrated with the speed, though. It takes a long while to upload a podcast file (mp3).

The telephone service also improved. Since I requested a replacement of the unit, both the signal and reception became stable. The line is crisp clear and no longer choppy. I think my old unit got screwed.

Am still satisfied with its performance but I may subscribe to a broadband after I upgrade my PC.

  2. Hi Bajeam,

The convenience of bringing the landline anywhere is indeed an advantage. But the internet connection is fast becoming a problem. Perhaps because more and more subscriber are coming in.

P 995 is not fixed, you have also have to pay the vat and the rental for the modem. IDD and NDD is not included in the 995 fixed amount.

  3. Hi, I decided to subscribe to this speak and surf and am waiting for my unit to be delivered, but I have been getting this feedback. Can anyone confirm the following:
    1. it is very difficult to connect to a pldt landline?
    2. Internet connection is not as what they claim it its?

    Thanks for your feedback

  4. Hi Peter,

    1. Connection with PLDT is not a problem. The wireless phone is a great product, at least from where I am located (Manila).

    2. But I cannot say the same for the internet connection. It used to be satisfactory, stable connection and can reach max promised speed. I experienced intermittent connection since Dec of last year.

  5. i just got my unit two weeks ago and the phone line is indeed great.

for the internet connection, I am still in the process of testing it, though so far, I could get through our company’s vpn… thats a more important thing for me than browsing to other sites..

  6. Can the Globe 1 card be used with my speak and surf? I wanted to use it for a call to the US. tnx

  7. Hi Ignacio,

Yes, I think you can use it.

  8. i don’t think speak n’ surf is good..
i already tried it last February(2007), and after a month we decided to give it back to them(return the unit), because signal is very poor specially on our area, so i think globe technical team should have a survey on a particular area were their unit will be placed, because when i call the CS they told me that, our area is to far from transmitting area, and our status is still not operating, and they told me to wait for at least 2weeks for them to fix it, but its already 1month but there is no call from them… to those who want to subscribe to globe, think twice or maybe trice before you try it, that’s all thanks!!

  9. Thanks for the input Mon. We are experiencing problems in our wireless phone right now. sigh…

  10. Hi Im from Evacom, Canaynay Avenue Paranaque City. Am planning to subscribe. Can any one advice if this Speak n Surf will really serve me for the worth of 995 pesos?

  11. In case it did not work for me or was unsatistified with this speak n surf, can I terminate my subscription any time?

  12. Hi Ding,

    (1) I think there is a signal problem on Las Pinas, go have a sales rep check your area for signal before subscribing.

    (2) They have a lockin period for 24 months.

    (3) If you’re ok to 128 -256 speed, this is OK. If you have a strong signal in your area, phone is great. Otherwise, you just threw away your money.

    (5) Total subscription including rentals and taxes is P1250.00, not P995

  13. Thanks Sonnie!!

I’ll be back as soon as i have checked the signal status in our area. BTW we are not from Las Pinas but Paranaque City although we are a kilometer away from the boundary. Do you have an idea of the nearest globe satellite to our place? Thanks again!

  15. Hi Raffy! Hi Sonnie!

I’m back Sonnie!..Sad to read your comment Raffy..Sana ipina-test mo muna yung location mo before closing with the agent coz there are places that have poor signal. I just recently subscribed to SnS and have it tested at our location (Paranaque) and it did gave good results both phone and internet. As Sonnie said better than dial up plus me wireless landline ka pa. I advice you to preteminate your subscription rather than pay for a poor service then switch to smart bro.I think magbabayad ka nga lang ng two months. Im now using SnS and thinking of using both my 2 PC’s at the same time, my desktop via ethernet cable and my laptop via wireless. Babagal kaya? Can anyone advice? Can my wireless laptop receive from my Axesstel modem using a wireless usb adapter on my laptop w/o using another router?

  16. Hi Raffy,

Sorry I can’t help you with your query, hope the techies around can give you some advise.

It’s good to know you have good signal there… enjoy :-D

  17. Hi Sonnie,

Wer located in Silangan, San Mateo Rizal higher than antipolo, Wer thinking of subscribing to SnS. After reading the comments on ur site looks like the cons outnumbered the pros but i guess this also depends on the area. Can u fill me in on the process for signal check?

    Thanks

  18. Hi, thanks for your commenting on my blog.

    (1) SnS internet is better than the wireless landline. This is because globe was only able to acquire a lower frequency compared to Bayantel.
    (2) Before you subscribe, ask your sales agent to check the signal in your area. Normally, they will visit your house with a sample landline and modem with them for you to see for your self the signal.
    (3) Remember that you will be lock up for 2 years.
    (4) But consider also the convenience of having your landline with the family if all of you are outside

  19. You know what people? Even if its has great features-DON’T EVER GET A SPEAK N’ SURF UNIT!

The problem is, yeah even if they did check your area and surveyed your location with good signal strength lighting up green in you wireless modem indicator, it is no assurance that you will get melancholic connection everyday. It is clearly inexpensive, but the problems (connection, download, upload, Customers Service People :P ) is surely an expensive experience. I learned it first hand. No matter where your at, even if your location is clear of obstacles and stuff, you would experience this, somehow. So stay away from this package bundles. Or else, youd be the one taking all the constraints of putting up a post like this or adding a new blog with the main headline “I hate Globelines Broadband” kind of think. Save yourself will ya’?

  20. Ester Rodriguez June 11, 2007 at 8:09 AM

I live in SAINT gABRIEL Heights in Antipolo and need a wirless connection that does not cheat. We havea digetel wireless connection and when we applied we were given a phamplet and a contract that says that intrenet connectiuon was .30 centavos a minute tax inclusive and when the bill came it says .50 centavos a minute and without prior notice to customers that they are gonna raise their rate is very disappointing. We would like to change connections if you can advise me of a more trust able company. Wonder if PLDT has a connection over this way now?

  21. Hi Ester,

Thanks for visiting my site. Now regarding your inquiry, if you’re limited to wireless connection check with Globe Innove if they have a service in your area, wireless phone and internet or Bayantel for wireless phone only.

If you’re interested with wireless internet only, go for Globe’s visibility or PLDTs e-roam (am not sure though if this is for lap top computers only) or SMART Bro.

As for reliability of service, well I don’t know. Some would say most if not all have crappy service after they locked you up for 2 years

  22. I agree with numbends. I got a green signal but I still cant connect to the internet. I’ve been calling their tech support hotline 919-8888 or 171 (for globelines) for 4 days straight more than twice a day to report that I still dont have a connection since saturday but they just keep on giving me different versions of alibies such as server hardware upgrade (but when you call again and ask about server uprade, other tech support doesnt know about it). Also speed is not satisfying. You can even get a speed of 7kbps, (worser than dialup)even on green signals. I’m not against Speak and Surf. Just sharing my experience. by the way terminating a subscription will cost you more than 1000 peso. Is this fair? you’re not satisfied with their service but you still need to pay. Anyway the decision’s still on you.

  23. Hi everyone!

Let me share what I’m experiencing now with this SnS. In my earlier posts I was also curious abot this SnS..then after having a good signal in our place during the test, they got me in to it..subscribed..have used their service good enough for two weeks..then for the next two weeks, we experienced on and off connection specially in the afternoon..then suddenly on June 9, 1 pm we cannot any more connect until now. I have called their customer service, technical service, even the sales agent that brought me in to this everyday and all their answers were always uncertain..seems nobody knows what really is the situation. Even the technician was wondering what happened. I was supposed to be getting signal from Clarmen Village, just near our place, but his monitor showed I was getting from Moonwalk area which is a dead site. Now I believe Mon, Raffy, numbends. Fancy, we are experiencing the same problem. Am planning to stop my subscription and will not pay the two thousand termination fee because the problem is at their end. I’ll switch to smart bro.

I showed this page to the technician so that Globe Innove people can see what their customers are saying about their service.

To all you out there, forget about SnS!

  24. Hi Ding,

I hope the technicians will take note of our issues and concerns. I think congress should pass a bill banning the 24 month lock in period or make it non binding for a crappy service

  25. I have just connected to SnS, download speed is good, at 600kbps but the problem is the upload which is only 60kbps at max! This is too bad if ur into emailing and online gamin… Hope globe would address this problem… Btw, the phone is ok!

  26. Hi Angel,

Have intermittent Internet connections lately :-( but phone signal is improving. Thanks for the feedback

  27. any updates regarding the latest problem of SnS? (again and again)

    what’s their new alibi?

i’m sick and tired of this…
hope they could cancel my contract earlier!!

if ur thinkin of subscibing.. think a thousand times!!!

  28. Hi Drake,

I have no internet connection for the last 2 days. The phone is also a problem. grrrr..

  29. Hi Sonnie, Drake

Here’s my update. (please see my previous posts). After writing a formal complaint to the sales people of Globe Innove plus requesting for a switch from SnS1(axestel modem) to SnS2(ZTE 3G modem) my problem was solved in almost 2 weeks. I’m now using this SnS2 and faster than SnS1(only 256 kbps) giving me 384 kbps of connection speed, sometimes even up to 500 kbps. Phone is ok however, its connected to the modem unlike SnS1 phone is independent on the axestel modem. Ive started using SnS2 since June 22 and so far no problem. I hope this will not give anymore hassles, otherwise i’ll really switch to smart bro.

  30. Hi Ding,

I never knew there was SnS2, I have talked to their CSR but they advised me to visit a globelines center. I have no internet connection now, I think they have a recurring problem with their internet hub.

  31. Hi Sonnie,

Actually, I knew it from a technician who was looking into my SnS1 when I had a dead connection for 2 weeks. He had this SnS2 modem tested on my PC and it worked and faster than SnS1. They are using it on areas where the signal is weak for SnS1. So I requested for a switch. Ay naku, huwag mo silang tantanan! They will not act fast until you write a formal complaint. If you cannot stand anymore, you can use their shortcomings/poor service for a termination of subscription without paying the pre-termination fee.

  32. @DING: So exactly how did the Globe people accommodated your request about requesting for an SNS2 switch?

Me too am having problems with my connection and I called the 171 hotline a million times but still I have no connection. The latest I heard from CSR was that SNS1 subscribers cannot connect to the net. How much is SNS2 BTW?

  33. Hi neL,

Well, the sales people, after e-mailing my complaint to the higher ups, they processed my papers for the switch, brought new subscription papers and in one week time they gave me a new set of SnS2 modem and phone. It costs the same 995 for the data services and 300 for the phone for one year.

  34. Hi Ding,

Thanks for answering my question. I was wondering if I’d like to switch to SNS2 or just cut the subscription and find another ISP.

Anyway, pls send the email add where you sent your complaint to my email: nelshinigami@gmail.com . I really am pissed off with the service I am getting. To think that it’s only nearing two months of subscription and this is already happening.

    This has to end.

    :(

  35. Hi Ding,

Can you also send me the email address where u submitted ur complaints? rcasis2002@yahoo.com
I’m from Las Pinas, also having an intermittent connection. How much would I pay if I terminate the subscription? I only subscribe last week of June. I am not satisfied with the connection.Do u think a SnS2 modem will solve the problem?
    Thanks!

  36. Hi neL, Roland,

You can send your complaints to cbgsales@innove.com.ph. I think youll pay almost Php 2,000 for termination of contract. As per Fancy its a thousand. Use their poor service and shortcomings as the main reason for pre termination of contract so you won’t pay the fee then go Smart Bro. I think it has a more stable connection because of its up on the roof antenna. You just loose the landphone bundled service. For me, SnS2 solved my dead connection problem and gave me more connection speed from 256 to 384 kbps.

  37. if im 1km away from the tower of globelines that provide the signal for sns2 and the test speed appears to have atleast 194 to 264 kbps (inside our house) should i accept this plan of speek n’ surf? do globlines provide outdoor antenna? if not where can i buy one? thanks… ^_^

  38. question: disadvange of speek and surf is that if there is no electical supply, your phone line wont work also…? i think the the charged battery from the phone can only last for atleast 3 hours?… pls respond from my first comment it would be helpful… thanks again ^_^…

  39. hi Ding,

can i use smart bro antenna as an antenna for SnS2??… thanks

  40. Hi globe globan,

If you want to benefit from SnS’ bundled landphone and satisfied getting an average speed of 200 kbps ( I suppose you’re talking of SnS1, w/ the axestel modem), then go ahead with SnS. No, they don’t provide outdoor antenna. I think Smart Bro’s antenna have different frequency so you cannot use it with your modem. However, a technical representative informed me that a coaxial cable to a an ordinary TV antenna on the roof can be used as outdoor antenna for the modem but using such conflicts with the modem’s user’s manual to use antenna other than the one provided. There is electric power supply both for phone and modem. For SnS1 phone is independent to modem such that you can bring the phone anywhere while for SnS2 the phone is connected to modem with electrical supply automatically charging its Ni-Mh battery.
Now if you want to give more importance to your data services(internet) and giving up the voice service(bundled landphone), my advice is to go Smart Bro.
Hope this would help in your decision.
    Regards.
PS. You can inquire with Globelines (9198888) for other internet services with higher connection speed like 768 kbps, 1mbps, 2 mbps with corresponding monthly flat rates.

  41. My connection has been running on super slow for 3 weeks now. Funny thing is it slows down around 8:00pm – I suppose when call center agents start working on their east coast accounts. Clearly a case of bandwidth throttling where Globe redirects precious bandwidth to higher demand, higher paying customers such as the call centers. Should be ok though, except they are using bandwidth previously allocated to a customer segment to serve another – most people would call this stealling!

Well, these people obviously do not know the power of the consumer… so send your hate mails to the bosses of Innove…

    dexter.bautista@innove.com.ph, boboy.romero@innove.com.ph, tinamarie.ortiz@innove.com.ph, customercare@innove.com.ph, allan.cuevas@innove.com.ph, gil.genio@innove.com.ph, annalee.guevarra@innove.com.ph, marko.ureta@innove.com.ph, lino.cuachon@innove.com.ph, maremee.velez-matinong@innove.com.ph, cherryann.francisco@innove.com.ph, cocoy.claravall@innove.com.ph

Oh and did you know that Manny Pangilinan actually responds to each and every complain that he gets when he still owned PLDT? Never get that from the bosses above. To think that MVP is so up there… interesting.

    Enjoy!

  42. hi Ding!,,

weeee it was a great help,, it some of my doubts! phewwww… w8 last question…our house is less than 1km or 1km away from the tower??? is this ok? thanks again!

  44. sino may kilalang agent ng speak and surf… text nyo naman contact number nyo sakin at 0921-2426142

  45. alex gaisano,

dito samin may nakatambay na globe,my stall sila naghahanap sila ng gusto magpakabit, kaso di ko lam kung sns1 or 2 ito, wala namang nakaindicate, kumuha ako ng flyers,d pa ako nagpapakabit kasi kumukuha pa ako ng info bout this, eto ung agent…JAYSON NARAG 09169136729

  46. The post here in sonnie’s porch still rakes in comments. Wow.

    @goliath

nice, you have provided us a very useful info by providing us their emails. Im still getting 200kbps max with sns. Pls dont get this sns…

    @ding

I didnt know that there was sns2. I would check it out.

  47. does sns1 and sns2 two use the same type of indoor antenna?

  48. @maytel mynt
the answer is yes all indoor. The only difference is that the phone for sns 2 is connected to the modem and it uses 3g technology (HSDPA) which the axxesstel dont have.

  49. ask ko lang, kakarating lang ng globe speak n surf unit sa bahay and ng ikabit ko, di ako maka connect, sa tingin ko is mahina signal sa loob ng bahay namin, so ang ginawa ko is try ko sa labas i on and maganda signal nya, so ang ginawa ko is bumili ako ng mahabang USB cable and inilabas ko sa bahay.. problem is di na nya madect yung modem sa haba ng USB cable :( meron pa bang other ways para lumakas signal ko sa loob ng bahay? TIA

syangapala nakaka ilang call na ko sa 171 nila and pare pareho lang sinasabi.. sayang time ko :)

  50. I have had SnS1 for 4 months and the internet service is horrible. i get speeds of 35kbps when lucky. After almost 2 months of fighting it out with globe, they finally allowed me to migrate to sns2 which uses their 3G network. At last its finally working.

Their technician told me, 80% of sns1 using cdma network is having problems because their cdma signal is having interference from other signals. if you have to have sns, go for sns2. i have regretted getting sns1, but with sns2, i get speeds up to 400+kbps. Globe will use all the excuses in the world to not make you switch, you have to be adamant about it, i threatened to report them to DTI if they didnt do anything about my service. Had to have a lot of verbal war with their hopeless customer service.
