I don’t understand why MMDA and the local Gov’t of Manila is allowing this:
This does not only aggravate traffic, but pose dangers to those riding pedi cabs. Paging Mayor Atienza and/or Chairman Bayani Fernando.
[...] On the local front, am not sold out to vote the young Atienza yet because on his father’s term, pedicabs plying on national and city roads prolifirate (BAD). But the alleged platform of the camp of Lim, aside from putting up new hospitals, is to “undo” whatever was done by the Atienza group (that beautifies Manila and successfully put Manila in the tourist map and generate jobs). Maybe, if elected, Lim will initiate an investigation to look for anomalies on the beautification projects and cultural revival initiated by Atienza. Ohh well, I guess I will have to just endure the pedicabs on the roads, lesser evil, I suppose? [...]
[...] I once thought that Manila was a lost cause because of urban decay but I was surprised by the transformation of the city — Roxas Boulevard, the city’s plazas and the public wet markets in particular. There is one thing that I disliked during Atienza’s term– it’s the proliferation of pedicabs along national and city roads. [...]
Questions For Mayor Fred Lim…
As a Manileño who has seen three mayors at its helm — Mel Lopez, Fred Lim and Lito Atienza — there was no doubt that Atienza built on what Lim has started and brought Manila back into the tourist map and initiated cultural revival and urban develo…

I don’t understand this too. And most of the times, these pedicab drivers act as if they are the king of the road.
I hope they’ll do something about this.
you’re right. and when they got hit, of course who will be blamed? tsk tsk…it’s also a nice way of earning a living but i think pedicabs should only be allowed inside the subdivision or say at least be away from the main road or highway. i think the barangay captains and tanods are the one responsible for this. saftey rules should be implemented for strict compliance, otherwise they’ll be penalized or any other sanctions must be given (like suspension – not allowed to operate, imprisonment, etc.).
While we do not want to deprive these guys an opportunity to earn, authorities should begin to regulate these before any freak accident would happen.
Hi,
My car got hit by a pedicab September last year, at the intersection at ortigas – libis/c5. I was minding my own business waiting for the lights to turn green. Then, blam! This pedicab with a sidecar used for carrying soda crates hit my right side door. The handlebars dug under the stem of the sideview mirror. The front wheel, (which for some reason contained enough spikes to give Ben Hur’s chariot a scare) dug into my rims…unpainted aluminum rims… causing unsightly scars.
How did it hit my car? Well…the bastard was trying to squeeze between my car and the FX to my right. Sobrang sikip. Then, when the lights turned green, the FX started moving. The right wheel of the pedicab got snagged in the rear wheel of the FX. The pedicab then got dragged forward hitting my car.
Bwisit talaga. And the bastard had the gal to blame the FX driver.
Anyway… after a 10 minute shouting match, the argument boiled down to the “Kahit na ako may kasalanan, wala naman akong pambayad. ”
After that… I let the bastard go. I saw some resbaks approaching.
And there weren’t even any MMDA’s in the vicinity.
Hi Eric,
This got to be stopped. Ikaw na naperwisyo, ikaw pa ang mabubugbog.
I sincerely hope the Gov’t will act on this soon.
Ingat tol…
nakakainis talaga yang mga pedicab na yan
its a huge fact that pedicabs are causing more harmful than fruitful effects to others just to earn a penny; they might damage gorgeous cars , may hurt people passing byways and definitely a sore to a tourists eyes… But we filipinos are well known for giving fair judgement right? Maybe we should also consider, think and predict, “What will be the task of a pedicab driver if he is not in this way of surviving at present?” maybe he is a professional holdupper, drug addict, swindler, gambler, murderer…… come to think of it…
now we choose….
Hi Manu,
I agree with you, but this should be regulated so lives and properties should not be endangered.
Cheers!
