World Class Pinoy

November 19, 2006 · by Sonnie · Career, Career Series, Pilipinas, Self Help

Full of confidence, yet humble. A warrior but gentle. Powerful but equally skillful.

Manny Pacquiao, world class Pinoy!

Being proud to be Filipino is one. But since Manny led the way how a poor boy from a nation where its leaders fight each other, wealth is not shared fairly, the intellectuals and talents migrate to another country, the nurses, doctors and other professionals leave their family to work in a foreign land for lack of opportunity or otherwise, and where the poor have to make ends meet to survive, would be able to achieve its dream, aspiration and add value to his countrymen. Not ashamed of his faith in God and his heritage as Pinoy. I hope we can move from admiration to emulation of Manny’s positive values.

Indeed, Mabuhay ang Pinoy!

  1. I am proud of our very own Manny Pacquiao. The last time I came home about 4 months ago, our family watched the last match between Manny and that guy, (sorry Sir Sonnie I couldn’t remember his name), everyone was cheering and shouting and feeling excited for Manny. At last, he won and I carried a great feeling with me while I was inside the plane for China. Thinking about Manny and his big accomplishments makes me really proud to be PINOY.

    Thanks to him.
And thanks to you Sir for featuring him in your blog.

  2. sienna,

    That guy is Oscar Larrios.:)
Me too. I’m very proud of our very own Pacman.

    This blog is sooooo nice.

  3. Lessons Learn from Pacman

Prior to “The Grand Finale” bout of Pacman and El Terrible, I predicted an 8th round knockout of Morales by Pacquiao. I am sorry, I under estimated Manny. I did not expect that Pacman will devour the Tijuanian warrior in just 3 rounds on November 19, 2006. Manny was very swift and very strong in devouring Eric, Pacman is really like the Nintendo “Pacman” game I used to play in a video arcade in Pasig when I was a kid.
Many kind words have been said about Manny. Like, Manny is the greatest of all Pinoy sportsmen. He is the messiah of boxing since he brought a new life to the dying sports. Of course, he has some weaknesses and wrongdoings like all of us but this is not my agenda. After the euphoria of Pacman’s win, more nice words have been said about the people’s champ.
But what lesson’s as an employee or individual can we really learn from his victory?
One, for someone to be successful in his chosen career or to tackle one’s goal, an employee or an individual has to have dedication, perseverance, never say die attitude, no fear, self-confidence or in one word discipline. Discipline would be one’s driving force to continue achieving his goal no matter what the hindrances are. Pacquiao was so disciplined in his training for the 3rd bout with Morales. He even sacrificed being away from his wife “Jinky” who was about to give birth at that time of his training.
Two, there is no better way than being prepared for the battle. Manny has prepared himself well as if it would be his last battle and there would be no tomorrow. The training was also the longest training he has undergone and prior to the training he had a tune-up fight with Chololo which he also conquered. In everyday life, in attending an important meeting or during customer audit, preparation in exaggeration is much better than being less prepared. We can never tell what surprises we may have during an important event. Remember, Pacquiao had a fever when he fought, if he was not prepared and has a fever, he may have not won the fight. Luckily, there is”Alaxan”. Kidding aside, being prepared is a weapon.
Three, a person must continuously improve and learn from his mistakes, change his approaches and apply the principle of Kaizen. In his 1st fight with El Terrible, Manny has the strength of his left hand and the attitude to never say die. Manny fought ferociously until the end of the 12th round even his blood was oozing from his right eyebrow due to an accidental head butt. But this was not enough. Manny’s skills were not honed yet and Eric experience as a boxer has overwhelmed Manny. Pacman bowed to a greater boxer. In their second bout, Pacman had added in his arsenal the right hook which coach Roach (not cockroach) called “Manila Ice”. The right hook was impressive since Eric has to watch Pacman’s two hands, the left and the right. After a great fight, Eric fell on the 10th round. In “The Grand Finale”, the trilogy of their epic battle, Pacquiao has his blinding speed, Manila Ice, Pacman shuffle (ala Ali’s shuffle) and Manny’s left hook which I call the “the Tyson punch”. These weaponries which Manny has continuously practiced and improved was so devastating that even a great warrior like El Terrible has no answer but to accept the fact that Manny has hurt him and would be futile to continue fighting the best pound for pound and the most exciting boxer called “Pacman.
Lastly, Manny is a down to earth person and he does not forget to bring back the glory to God and his countryman every time he fights, win or lose. In order to succeed, I believe that a person should always do his very best for his country but most importantly one should rely and accept God’s will whatever would be the outcome after doing once best. The glory and honor should always be to Him.
I salute Manny since “siya ang tumapos”. To “Pacman”, “Idol”, “People’s Champ”, CONGRATULATIONS!

  4. Joe,

Thanks for the great thought! You have said it very well.

  5. I have too much confidence for Pacquiao in his last fight with Morales. I knew all along that El Terrible eventually will be knocked out. I wasn’t able to watch the fight here in Thailand but when my fellow Filipinos told me about the fight, I told them that Morales is no match for Pacquiao for the following reasons:

    1. Pacquaio is not only a strong puncher but he also can take one. Morales hit him with his best shot but it didn’t seem to stun the Pacman.
    2. He has the ability to bounce back after being knocked down.
    3. Morales knew all along that he would be beaten, he is fighting for the money. Pacquaio never fights for the money (although it is there), he fights for pride, and for his people.

My prayer for Manny is that he would remain humble, continue to help people with his prized money, and would retired from boxing with his dignity intact.

  6. Your post reflects Nostalgia Manila’s mission in preserving what is truly Pinoy. Nostalgia Manila is a fun way to educate today’s youth, so that they may learn from the past. Although it is important to move forward and embrace new advances in technology, we must never forget what we’ve accomplished as Filipinos. We must save and respect what’s left of our past, and must NEVER be ashamed of these accomplishments. Baduy is in the eye of the beholder. There is NOTHING BADUY about HISTORY! History should be preserved, and respected. Mabuhay and totoong Pinoy!

  7. WOW!! wla naman aqng nakikitang mga PHILIPPINE PRESIDENT…eh…
