More Speak and Surf Review
update (12/17/07):
because of difficulty making and connecting calls, and slow internet connections, I finally returned my SnS and discontinued my subscription effective today. A promising product that can’t take off because of frequency limitations.
Am on my third week of using Globe Innove’s Speak and Surf, here are my additional FR:
Wireless Phone
- We brought the wireless phone to Subic– nope it did’nt work. Though I was advised that it will not work yet outside of Metro, am just curious since this is cell site operated I thought it may work whenever a Globe signal is available.
- Text from wireless phone to Smart network is not available.
- Though you can send text message from wireless phone to Globe for free, the wireless phone do not receive text messages (yet?)
- Caller ID not working (yet?)
The product is value adding, cool and a lot of room to innovate and improve. I just hoped the unit is more trendy.
Internet
- Compared with Smart Bro, promised speed is slower.
- In my experience, no downtime yet
- Signal does not fluctuate but speed is intermittent.
- According to their CS, speed is affected whenever another wireless equipment is operational (am not sure how true this is).
If you are used to 500++ speed, this is NOT FOR YOU. If you are used to dial up, this is a better alternative.
Hi. I’m glad you were not swindled by them. Good for you. I guess I’m just one of the very few unlucky ones. I’m still waiting for my phone in vain…
Have a nice day! Thanks for dropping by my blog.
Hi,
Nice to have you here! in due time you will have your phone and internet access. I hope Globe people will do something about this immediately.
BTW, there will be a gathering of bloggers on Monday, 9/25 at Gorietta 3 sponsored by Globe Innove. Its free. You may want to go there.
Go to this site for the details: http://blogcon.wetpaint.com/page/Home
hi, could you msg me how to subscribe to Speak and surf my bro’s nagging me about it he saw a flier i think but didnt keep it im searching thru net but havent found enythn tnhks!
Hi,
Speak and Surf is a product of Globe Innove (a subsidiary of Globe). I hope the following will help you.
1. Go to a nearest Globelines Center ( I know one at Park Square 2) or along UN Avenue Manila, beside Metro Bank. Globelines is different from Globe Telecoms. Globetel may not be able to assist you.
2. File your application– they will personally visit your place and check the signal.
3. If your place enjoys a strong signal for both the wireless phone and modem, they will advise you and will require you to pay P 995 as advance payment.
4. Within a week, your phone and modem will be delivered.
If you can find any globe landline, call 171 and an operator will assist you. Sorry, I can’t recall the hotline if you will be using a landline other than Globes.
Hope this help. Best regards.
Hi. Happy New Year! I accidentally found you while looking for a solution with my Speak & Surf.I too ,have some dissapointment regarding this promo in the past.It is primarily in regards with the speed,I’ve been using it since August 2006 and until now nothing has change with regards to my speed connection. The agent told me that it has a speed of 500+(it is also written in their billing statement before)but all I got is a 100Mbps speed(so sad).It really irritates me specially when attaching pictures on e-mails….O God!it would take you hours to attach it…that’s how it badly works, but since we are in a 2 year contract with the network,I guess all we have to do is to wait and hope for a better service.Pls,keep me posted when you experience some changes. Thanks!
Internet connection is bad since the Taiwan earthquake. I have to use my mobile phone just to read updates. But to update my blog and attending to my other e-stuffs, I have to go to an internet cafe.
Sad indeed.
The agent told me that it has a speed of 500+(it is also written in their billing statement before)but all I got is a 100Mbps
Hi looks,
The agent may be lying to you. It’s promised speed is only is 124 to 256. Smart Bro is even faster.
The product is only attractive because it is bundled to a wireless land line.
I ended my contract with smart bro two months ago andI’ve been using s ‘n s for more than 1 week now. the top speed s ‘n s can handle is around 270kbps, not even close to 1mbps. smart bro can reach 400kbps. my download speed with s n’ s is 29kbps not much different compared to smart bro’s 39kbps. the only thing wrong with smart bro is the reliability of their connection and the response time of the tech support.
Hi! That 100Mbps is not the internet speed. its actually your pc to modem speed. Actually 100Mbps is faster than globe’s 256Kbps promised speed. the 100Mbps is the ethernet speed. If you want to know how fast speak and surf really is, try this site http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/
My speak and surf is intermittent in its connection with the server but the signal is constantly strong. I’m hoping that globe can fix this problem
Speak And Surf is a crappy service!
when i got my unit, i only got to use it for barely 3days (still has good service) then i can no longer recieve any signal, but when i got my signal back around april 12 (almost 1month) i’ve been experience numerous problems with it! my latency rating reaches upto 1053ms! its been a month now and they still havent fixed the problem! what a crappy service and to think that we’re tied up for 2years! what a waste of money!
that is the problem here in the Philippines, we are held hostage for two years for a crappy service.
If you are not receiving the service as promised, you may terminate your contract with them even if you have a 2-year contract. They are guilty of BREACH OF CONTRACT.
Yea, they maybe in Breach of Contract but the Problem is, They want me to pay them 1,995 pesos for the Force-Disconnection Fee. and also i only recieved my Bill Number 2, where the hell is my Bill Number 1?… and along my bill number2 is a disconnection notice, and not only that, they’re also charging me for my no-connectivity period from march 22 utpo april12. Damn, what a Rip-Off!!!
.. and if you will not pay, they can turn over your account to legal for appropriate action. Something MUST be done to correct this anti customer practice
hi…. i stumbled upon this blog while i was searching for some “answers” on my inquiries on s ‘n s which a door-to-door agent could not provide… i was surprised to read how crappy this service could be… are you guys still experiencing these tech hassles? and the not so quite impressive internet speed? would u discourage me in getting one? tnx
Hi Kirk,
Internet connections sometimes are intermittent. If you’re used to broadband speed, this is not for you. But speed is better than dial up (at least from my area).
I got problems now with my wireless phone, the signal got screwed and I don’t know why. I have to step outside our place to get clear reception.
Response time for complaints is super slow. But I heard Smart Bro is crappier, I don’t know exactly, I just heard/read complaints from users.
so i guess we just have to choose something better than worse eh =)
i hope globe would just improve its services then because the concept is really good… plus if they could make the wireless phone more handy or trendy, that would be an added bonus =)
sino dito na ayaw na ng speak and surf… ako nalang magpapatuloy! text me at 09212426142
guys… an tech guy from globe has made an on-site visit this afternoon to troubleshoot an internet connection issue which has been down for almost two weeks already ( for me ). Unfortunately, even the technician is not informed that the whole CDMA network is down… too bad..
So far, they have had me test the new HSDPA unit and it works fine, much faster than the CDMA unit…though outgoing call still does not work… any feedback on this new unit?
thanks.
anyone who has tried returning the unit to Globe?
if i were you, you should not try globe anymore. in my experience, globe is the worst provider and I have had a horrible experience.
i would like to take my complaint to the NTC. anyone familiar with the process? do send me an email at frrfernando@hotmail.com
hi sonnie….
tumbled upon this blog and saw some of the technical problems of the said product.
actually i’m availing the said service by next week. a sales agent tested the wireless modem in our area. btw, i’m from SSS Vill. Marikina City.
i tried the connection thru speedtest.net for 2 straight hours and also tried to browse several sites (NBA.COM; YouTube; IMEEM; Friendster; EA.COM etc.). DATA signal doesn’t flicker at all — meaning, i’m getting a strong signal via 3G. Globe Innove has to do something about this. What’s the latest on the said service. I’d be glad to receive your feedback on this
Per my speedtest checking, UPLOAD speed ranged from 30 to 60 kbps; DOWNLOAD speed ranged from 100 to 220 kbps(it did’n't reach thru the commercially declared speed of 500++ kbps)
*** my question is :
has anyone tried to ask any electronics or computer shop that we can buy a much powerful antenna for the modem that can boost the connection speed of s’ n s’ broadband? also i’m thiking if said modem can also be connected with an external antenna (just like with smart bro)? if ever i can get my modem by next week, i’m planning to do this experiment at my home. I’ll keep you posted on this.
Hope this helps everyone…
some have returned it at sm city no questions asked, you could try though. mine seems to better right now. 256download 11upload thats the best they could offer.
hi people…
got my modem just this afternoon.
11pm
i’m currently tryin the said service. seems workin’ for methough D speed is at 180kbps and U speed is at 62 to 65 kbps.
tried also to view my videos @ imeem.com. video doesn’t flicker at all.
haven’t tried uploading photos and videos to file-sharing sites yet. i’ll keep you posted on this…
Hi veilside*,
Good that you’re enjoying your SnS. Am, in the process of requesting for bill adjustment since signal for the phone is not good, thus, often have drop calls.
Internet is still intermitent. Can’t check it now since my PC is dont too
hi people…
here’s the latest on my SnS…
D speed is burstin’ to 800 kbps to 2.2 Mbps while my U speed is from 60 to 256 kbps. at least in my area…. SSS Vill, Marikina…
i tested it through speedtest.net.
also tried to download movies through torrentspy.com. a one (1) full length movie took me 3.5 hrs to download in my PC. a music video usually takes 5-10 minutes max to download…
just sharin’ people….
@veilside*: ang ganda ng puwesto nyo ah! mine bursts up to 700kbps, the latest is 671kbps. uploading is a real drag at 56kbps.
the only problem i think, is the downtime which sometimes extends to 4 days. it isnt as intermittent as my smart wi-fi though. mas stable siya.
hey one more thing, can you guys send email using your local email client with your own domain? bad trip, ayaw sa akin eh.
salamat!
Grabe! horrible tlaga!!!
hi people….
just saw soweedee’s experience on the SnS service of Globe. with regards sa stability ng connection, ok naman siya (i gotta agree on gino pogi’s comment) pero yung nga lang – once you get connected (if ever na makaka-connect ka nga agad)hehehe.
this past week, i wasn’t able to get any connection at all. i’ve been calling their TSR/s for the whole week to check my subscription and always gives me the same old spiels of basic troubleshooting of w/c i’m already familiar with (take note, lagi yun ang basic spiel nila). since i’ve been telling them na they’ve already exhausted the use of their basic spiels on me, they immediate assumed that the said modem was defective of some sort (take note ha ” defective of some sort” pa ang ginamit ng term). parang anlabo naman para intindihin ng consumer yun. so sabi nila for immediate checking daw nung modem. someone will drop by at our house to test and check the said modem. since it was a wireless service, i brought my modem in my office (Ortigas / QC area) and to my surprise, nagkaroon ako ng signal and was able to connect using my laptop. so that means hindi defective yung modem ko, right?!
from the office on my way home, i kept the modem turned ON to check if i will lose the signal. pagdating ko sa house namin, signal was still up and running. i turned it OFF for a few seconds (15 – 20 secs.) and turned it ON again, ambilis makakakuha ng signal.
the following day, (Saturday) i tried to check if I can be able to get a signal, as expected, hindi na naman ako maka-connect. i kept the modem ON for the whole day, hindi pa rin ako maka-connect.
siguro, since it’s a wireless 3g service (i won’t be saying techie terms na ha), possibly my area has many subscribers already who availed this ervice and maybe nag-uunahan kami sa pagkuha ng mga available IP/s para maka-connect kami sa DSL service ng SnS. just a possible thought lang. baka nga konti pa lang ang mga ports for this 3g service, kaya yung mga gustong kumonnect eh kailangan maghintay pa until may isang subs na magdi-disconnect sa network. tsk. tsk. tsk.
i already returned the unit to them and they are currently processing my final bill (together with its bill adjustments) before i pay the pre-termination charges.
for those who are used to usual STABLE broadband speed, might as well avail a DSL service under a WIRED connection.
peace out!!!!
Take it from me… finally, i got my speak and surf disconnected… it was just a waste of money! instead, nag-samrtbro na lang ako. Honestly, there’s still much to be desired with their service pero compare sa experience ko sa SnS, this is like heaven and hell.
At least ngayon I can uplaod and use voip, before talaga wala.
What pisses me off right now is Globeline’s campaign of “keeping their promises” and their claim that they can ensure high speed connections… take note, video streaming ang example
I just field for the people who’ll get conned by that, 1500 halos ang service and respons to customer complaints is liable to cause you a heat attack!
FALSE ADVERTISING sya sobra! so if you know anyone na may balak pa kumuha ng SnS, just share ur experience. Beacause once they get you connected to their service, you’ll bare the burden na of their lousiness.
Alam nyo sabi pa sa akin ng isang agent na talaga lang day kahinaan ang signal sa area ko… then why the hell did they sign me up if they were aware of that problem, di ba!? talk about the lack of consumer rights!!!!
hey, guys who said that their SnS works fine, ur such a small number… lucky for you but most of the people i’ve talked to can’t say anyting good about it…
if you got high connection speeds, try nyo check speeds at regular close intervals and you’ll see na hindi at all stable bandwidth nila which is not just compromises your connection but also the security and stability of your computer
I encourage you to exercise your rights as consumers! demand bill adjustments and demand quality they promised. your blogs have inspired me to stand for my rights as well!
regarding the post i read – about the 100mbps? ei… globe offers 500 kbps! that is in kilo! 100 mbps is in mega! ok.. and if indeed u are using the ethernet part of the modem.. LAN connections really appear as 100 mbps. ok… but if u r using the USB part, then for u to maximize the usage.. increase the port bandwidth… ok.. take care
its true that it is a bit slow and sometimes it looses its connection but for its price i think its reasonable, considering that the package includes a wireless phone.. u just have to apply some tweaks on the connection.. to properly and to maximize its usage..
and to tell u frankly it isnt really with globe itself… but instead its with the manufacturer of the modems… which are made in china.. hehehe. got what i mean?:
I had my speak and surf modem and phone set delivered last tuesday, but I couldnt dial any number and use the internet. The following day wednesday called them up and told them about the problem, the tech guy told me that it was not activated yet so in 24 hours I can soon use the effin phone. By the way when I dialed tech support it would always say that speak and surf internet is having a maintenance of whatsoever.Thursday came no connection still on the phone, called them again and promised me that the phone will be activated before the day ends. Friday–still none called them up again until they decided to send some tech guys to take a look at the phone unit. Sat and Sunday –nobody came. Monday called them up again and I was transferred to another hotline since I was calling the number for the internet–galing mag transfer ng mga agents… Bottom line– till now wala pa rin..Im planning to return the unit–kainis… Globe really sucks…
nakaka-disappoint talaga!
p** yang glob! nwe applied aug. 17 pero the unit came at the end of sept. ang sabi nung agent 7-10 working days alng daw. and when the f** fone and modem finally came eh it took almost a month for it to be activated. the shit did’nt stop there! nung na activate na eh madalas na didiscon and sobra bagal! yung fone malaki din ang problema coz’ it takes 2-3 dials before the fone rings. 1st dial-busy 2-busy pa din. pano yan pag pang business o kaya emergency? HEY GLOBE!! WAKE UP @#%#$%@$^ bastards!!! niloloko nyo ang mga consumers!
because of difficulty making and connecting calls, and slow internet connections, I finally returned my SnS and discontinued my subscription effective today. A promising product that can’t take off because of frequency limitations.
Globelines Broadband is a scam!!! Letting us customers experience their 7-day trial period of real broadband speed then they will tie us in their 1yr bond then after that the HELL ON EARTH of internet begins.
I am experiencing problems with globelines broadband… I subscribed to their 512kbps wireless broadband package with wireless phone (PHP1295/mo.)… they gave me 7 days trial period and within that trial period I was amazed with the speed… pumapalo from 700+ kbps to 1+ mb… kaya pina-activate ko kaagad. Pero eto na ang kalbaryo… right after the 7-day trial period nagsimula nang maging intermitent ang connection speed nila either super bagal (I even got 5bps or lower!!!) o totally walang connection. My work is related to IT and I know that there is no problem at my side (hardware, softwares, cabling, etc…).
MASASABI KO LANG SA MGA GUSTO KUMUHA NG “SnS” WAG NYO NA ITULOY AT WALA KAYO MAKUKUHANG MAGANDANG SPEED KUNG MAPAGCHACHAGAAN NYO KAYO BAHALA PERO TAKE MY WORD WLANG KWENTA ANG “SnS”
Rafaels last blog post..Announcement for Up Comming Update !!
WAG PALOKO SA GLOBE !!!
Rafaels last blog post..Announcement for Up Comming Update !!
Calling 211 results in network busy signals for hours and hours now, Calling at 1am if you get thru the first part and have the auto answerer pick up it will still put you on hold for who knows how long due to a high volume of calls at 1am.
Having problems with my dsl internet service this entire month. Called on July 2nd report loss of internet, July 3rd Globelines starts with the Facility repair excuse and no idea when that will be completed. They assure you their tech are working as fast as possible. Two weeks later the internet works for 2 days in a row then another 18 hour loss of internet. Called customer service they informed me they were doing a facility repair? I asked him when that started and he said yesterday, I followed up with what about that 2 week facility repair that started on the July 3rd that globelines said was to blame for my useless internet?
That’s when they go into their we apologize for the inconvenience.
Called again the next day and globlines informs me that i am not part of the ongoing facility repair and they will send a tech out to the house in 4 days? Of course no tech showed up that day they scheduled.
Internet continues to work once in a while with 18 hour outages. Called Customer service yesterday at 2pm and they informed me there is a ongoing system restoration in my area which means the globelines tech’s are too busy to investigate and fix your connection so wait a while a couple weeks or so and maybe they will fix it then.
So to recap, first report of internet not working July 2nd, Facility repair for 2 weeks did not fix my problem, Another facility repair that i may or may not of been a part of depending on which cs agent you talk to, and now a System restoration that started July 24th that will last for weeks or months. Asking customer service how long their maintenance’s will take and they have no idea. Call a month later and its likely they are still blaming your internet problems on some facility repair and they still have no idea how long it will last.
Getting a internet connection fixed by globelines is getting to be almost impossible, the customer service exists to read a page of lies to you and to apologize a hundred times for their terrible service and to assure you they will fix it as soon as possible.
When a customer has to call 15 times a month trying to get the service they are paying this company for its apparent globelines is not capable of being a internet provider on any level. Expecting their customers to wait for months for stable internet while providing nothing but facility repair and system restoration excuses, sorry for the inconvenience and we are working as fast as possible crap.
When you point out that they have been saying the same thing for over 3 weeks, the exact same thing for 3 weeks, no new information at all on why your connection is not being fixed but rest assured they are working as fast as possible to fix your connection.
Globelines is a bad joke, they count on their customers to accept their lame excuses for weeks or months
