Speak and Surf

update (12/17/07):

because of difficulty making and connecting calls, and slow internet connections, I finally returned my SnS and discontinued my subscription effective today. A promising product that can’t take off because of frequency limitations.

I came from almost two weeks of blog leave– due to the series of Oracle meetings (I was tasked to be part of the group that will set up oracle payroll in our company). Likewise, we just moved in to our new home and internet connection is down for a week. Until Globe’s Innove wireless phone and modem was delivered early this afternoon.

This is a value adding offer from Globe, a wireless internet connection bundled with a wireless land line. Since we are in a condo unit, wireless technology is a big help.

  • NDD charges are waived for globelines to globelines call.
  • The wireless phone is equipped with text messaging and caller ID, to name a few. I have not explored yet all the features.
  • Since the phone is wireless, you can bring it anywhere as long as there is a cell site.
  • The modem is equally cool with plug and play feature.
  • Connection is easy, speed is not frustrating (at least to me)

I am not a Globe fan and have witnessed how rival SMART overtook it. The bundled offer, to my opinion, is a great deal for a price similar to that of SMART Bro.

I will give more feedback as I explerience the product. BTW, the bundle offer goes with a 2 year contract.

[…] Aside from being busy with Oracle, we just moved-in to a small & modest condo in Manila. Internet connection is down for about a  week until today when Globe’s Innove “speak and surf” wireless phone and modem arrived. Cool! It gets you connected fast with modest speed (so far). […]

Mahal pala yun monthly, masahol pa sa smartbroken yata.  Tiis na lang muna ako sa smartbulok , hintay na lang ng wired ISP provider dito samin.

Monthly fee is around P 1,200.00 for both wireless landline and internet. not bad for 2 services. am satisfied pa naman sa performance. and sometimes the speed is intermitent.

I heard from the grapevine that up to now smart bro is not yet fully functional and it will take them at least a year to correct this. what matters, allegedly, is the marketing image that they came out first with this product.

Customer complaints, I suppose, is manageable.

HI… please kindly give me the number of the agent na nag offer sau.. ung agent kc na pupunta samin d parin dumadating.. huhuh.. thanks!

Hi Cathy, I sent you an email but it bounced back. If you are just planning to subscribe, globe have put this product on hold because they encountered numerous complaints.

The frequency approved to them is too small compared to the coverage of their network. They are hoping to purchase the frequency of Bayantel before they launch this product again. This is according to one of their technical people.

I just don’t know if there are updates on this matter.

I signed up last Saturday. I knew beforehand that there may be issues. I just had to try myself. I live in BFRV in Las Pinas and they tested it while I was in the office (they called my office landline using their SnS wireless phone and the voice quality is ok. No popcorn sound, no cracking. That is for the voice. We didn’t have the chance to test the data part.

Is Friday today, the fifth day, the sales guy told me to wait for 3-5 days delivery. I have the whole day today to wait. Im in the office so ok lang. But I anticiapte the package to arrive within the day sa bahay. I was told that in other areas it takes weeks for delivery.

Hmmn all the headaches I do anticipate. I am a tech support person so I think I’d know what to do with technical issues. Until then.

Cathy, you may YM me, omd999, if you have questions.

Hi Gecko,

Do share some tweaking techniques to improve the speed. Though it’s faster than dial up, now that am podcasting, I find it slow when uploading files.

Hi! my name is peter im interested in globe speak and surf kindly email or txt me for 0920 7305040 blackzueds@yahoo.com my area is in marikina heights

I’ve encountered Globe agents on tents in BFRV Las Pinas, too. I was interested about their “lowered” prices so I inquired. Does Globe know their agents use Smart cellphone numbers? LOL!

They told me about a week ago that units would arrive a day after application, but I didn’t apply anyway.

Unspecified speed (you would not know unless you ask them personally, I couldn’t even see if they’re telling the truth), reduced bandwidth (compared to my current aDSL plan) and unit “rental” fees not included in the advertised price seems so deceitful.

Hi! I was actually surfing for SNS product of globe when I encountered the blog of Sonny. I am quite interested now that there are positive feedback from using SNS. I applied before with PLDT for their promo DSL 888. They told me to wait for 2 weeks for the installation. But until now, almost more than 2 weeks all I can do is to ring up 171 and continuously follow-up my landline application. I\’m desperate for a landline since I would be venturing to a small business. And landline is really important to gain the trust of the clients. Now I\’m looking for another ways to expedite this matter. Can you help me with this? Hope you can give the cell # of your agent. Thanks!

Speak n Surf…

my unit was fine until lately when things went really bad. voice quality seems unchanged though even if my data access really got from bad to worse. i called globe several times and they just told me that they are fixing the tower i am located with… i have to applaud the tech support guys since they are really polite to admit the problems they have…

early this week, my data access have improved (after over 2 weeks of really bad service) top download speed is around 700+kbps using speednet’s test engine. upload speed maxed out at 56k.

the upload speed seems to be a limitation of the 3g spectrum since i tested my smart phone’s 3g capabilities and i got similar upload results.

anyway, so far… after 2weeks+ of bad service things seem to be becoming better (except for some ports globe blocks most notably email and yahoo messenger’s port on adding and receiving add contacts)

just my 2cents…

wag kayong papaloko!!! try to check other forums and threads regarding this service…

Yeah, I noticed that the port on adding messenger contacts is non-functional. also changing the stealth setting status of your contacts. does anyone know how to circumvent this? or perhaps request globe to open up the ports. why close it anyway.

Speak and Surf Yahoo! messenger users!

i know you have problems with yahoo messenger being not to add / receive contact addition request.

workaround: use SOCKS server
link: http://www.aliveproxy.com/socks5-list/

on the link is a list of socks 5 proxy server you can use. this is a dynamic list because sometimes, a server goes down. well, apparently better especially if you’re bugged down by the constant nagging of y!m’s new contact request.

enjoy!

Hi, I’m using Speak and Surf as well and I also noticed that accepting or adding friends in YM has become a problem for me too. Upload is frustrating, not only because it is quite slow but most of the time, my uploads would completely fail in spite of my willingness to wait (haha). To add to that, the surfing speed is quite variable. I’ve observed that performance improves when I use it after midnight (or even later).

I am currently living in a condo-like apartment near my school and I thought that having a wireless connection would best address my need for an internet connection. Initially, I applied for a wired data-only connection from Globelines but was forced to switch to Speak and Surf since my residence is “far from their facility”.

If you guys happen to have any updates on the service (like unblocking of ports on YM) or tricks on how to improve my connection, just send me an email.

Btw, I have a tip on YM issues. If you guys need to accept a friend request, do it on meebo or trillian. It should be able to do the trick (most of the time). Hope this helps!

Speak and Surf in Rizal is quite good, though i went through a lot of hurdles to get their service working. Finally the speed was corrected the phone is ok and everything else the monthly subscription has been corrected. I will be reactivating the service this coming payday. but compared to all other services such as bayantel, smartbro , the bundled phone and internet is still as best of its kind with CDMA technology, though globe does not offer it anymore in our area, i am glad to just have the service still.
