To Be Or Not To Be

I was in a reflection mode last night and came across the passage below:

I know that you want truth to be in my heart. You teach me wisdom deep down inside me. Make me pure by sprinkling me with hyssop plant. Wash me. Then I will be whiter than snow. Let me hear you say, “Your sins are forgiven.”Let the body you have broken be glad. Take away all of my sins. Wipe away all of the evil things I’ve done. God, create a pure heart in me. Give me a new spirit that is faithful to you. Don’t send me away from you. Don’t take your Holy Spirit away from me. Give me back the joy that comes from being saved by you. Give me a spirit that obeys you. That will keep me going. Then I will teach your ways to those who commit lawless acts.

PSALMS 51:6-13

At that moment, I’m evaluating the choices I made on my career, family and professional relationships. I also have in mind the influence of leaders towards their work environment. In the professional world, un professionalism abound. In this kind of environment, there are two choices:

• Be popular and liked by most people, get the job done but trade your integrity. Some professionals are so focused on delivering the bacon, but in the process, have ignored the rules of the game– including time honored and tested rules.
• Another choice is to just stick to your principle and leave no room for flexibility. This, however will make you unpopular with people. Working with people with different agenda is difficult, and if they perceive that you are non cooperative, they can make your professional life interesting.

Success, according to Psalms 51, is not only based on what you achieve or what you produce for others, but

• Becoming what your Creator want you to be (v6-7)
• Stress free and happy life– deviations produce stress, stress shortens life, but forgiveness leads to joy (v8)
• Striving to stay motivated, having the right frame of mind, desire and attitude. (v9-12)
• Sharing the principles of God (v13)

This, I suppose, is the “change agent” HR role in action, adding value to people.
