<a href="#comment-38525">@ditastorrella </a>
You don't have to go very far although World Vision is a good way to go. I am sure your have kapit-bahay in the Philippines who may be struggling or you may have had maids and other katulong in the Philippines whose kids may be in dire need of educational assistance. Kung hindi mo man makayang mag-isa, get a fried or two at magdesignate kayo ng scholar ninyo. The best thing is to contact the school where the kid will go and then duon na ninyo ideretso ang tuition.

As an overseas worker myself, I do want to invest. Be it on mutual funds or stocks or even a small business. The only reason I have not started anything (after over 2 years already working abroad) is that i really don't know that much about investing.

That's why a google seach led me to this site :)

I believe that investment mindset is growing among OFWs, especially the higher income ones. I suppose, it's just a matter of time.

Hi,

You are correct that Pinoys are not keen on investing their money for bonds and stocks. Perhaps, a little scared or as you said do not trust yet not only the financial institution, but the political unstability. But education may change the mindset

I strongly agree with this idea. Just one thing i am very interested among others - investment in bonds/shares and funds. Only 1-2 % of the population engages in this. It's not even popular. In the UK lots of people everywhwere can be heard discussing about stock market. You can always see people in the train checking the financial section. It is very popular since it is always advertised in the TV and there are lots of financial organizations that provides opportunity for this ande there are so many companies that offer shares to theii employees. Generally investment of any sort is encouraged. That I think is a good way to improve local economy. I wish it is like that in our country.

As I observed remittances to the philippines are all kept in the bank by the family to be withdrawn when needed (parang bigasan) when in fact with little patience, it could have earned a lot when invested and at the same time improve the economy and the treasury(Tbills).

People are quite not confident with the financial institution because of political instability but most of all I reckon, the reason is there is not much ad campaign done about this and the financial sector are just left for the rich and in the know. Majority of people doesn't know what it's all about and because of that they dont care.
