Honestly speaking, the only way to change this country is for every citizen to be disciplined. We wouldn't have crooked officials in we were highly disciplined. I mean, look at us, mismong taman pagtawid nga lang eh di na natin GUSTONG gawin, what more with serious issues?

We do not need any coup de etat, another EDSA, communists to overthrow the government to have a better country. It's all in DISCIPLINE. Sadly, many of those anti-government forces lack-discipline themselves. I mean, egg throwing is "democracy"?

I had that dream too. Unfortunately, I woke up. I saw colonial mentality manifested in well-to-do families sending their kids to expensive private schools where English is well taught. I saw rich kids in the mall trying hard to speak English preparing for a future in US, Canada, Australia or New Zealand.

Too bad, pinoy's who have Filipino accent can't find good jobs here in Canada. They face discrimination and ridicule just like Chinese and Indian immigrants.

Today, I'm in Canada - enjoying better quality of life... free medical care...better professional advancement...secured family life. Discrimination - yes it's real here in Canada if you don't speak good english. But discrimination is worse in the Philippines specially if you are poor.

Gising na kabayan, mga doctor at nurses niyo ay nagsialisan na para magtrabaho sa abroad.

Ikaw rin, baka wala kanang makitang doctor sa pag tanda mo diyan.

I am with you in the rebellion to change the Filipino mindset - although I am carrying out my revolt in the economic and personal finance arena where the state of the Filipino mind is visibly manifested. After all, the same principles apply in all aspects of one's (and collectively, a nation's) life. If one can master the principles and bring about changes in one area of his life, he should be able to succeed in the others.

I say that change has to start in each individual. (A peek at my blog should give you an idea of the kind of revolt that I am waging.)

Thank you for this opportunity to leave a comment. And More Power to your blog and to your advocacy.

I have always been a rebel... in my own little way... i've been fighting through my own thoughts and words, the system that i see as rotten...

I was there too, at EDSA and we walked on foot to malacañang... It was a happy moment... a moment that never lasted...

Alas, all throughout our ideals, we still have to face the realities of life... a life that somehow our government cannot help uplift... a silent plot by those in government to help minimize plotters by limiting their own personal resources... hehehe.. elections in the Philippines only prove one thing and that is money gets you places...

The best real rebellion lies in our everyday work and deeds, if everyone did just one small good deed a day, making at least two happy people... if we cannot do a good deed, we can correct a small mistake of ours..

Anyway, the true rebels lie in the hearts and minds of those who really know freedom and its responsibilities... We are free to choose where ever we would want our lives to go, and still we are bound by the responsibilities that such freedom has... :)

All things are possible if we work for within the circle of influence. And if the people in our circle of influence will also do the same thing, then the revolution will come from the inside out and not only a legislation from the top.

Better if changes will take place at the same time, though :-D

This is the best way to change the filipino mindset, as a matter of fact the perfect way. Well, in the ideal world it applies. It took most of europe more than half a millenium to evolve to what they are now. I am not being pessimistic but just practical. Most aspect of our daily life is in one way or another influenced by government and "the church". Practically things won't change in a generation or two however with radical change it might.

Radical change can only be materialized if it comes from the top because change from the bottom I thought would be insignificant considering the nature of the filipino society and above most, the filipino mindset. Having said that, I agree that we dont have to go to the street to air our greivances because it will only fall in the deaf ears of the hypocrite public officials, people who have the mentality of "a new breed of rebel" must take public office whenever they can (the higher the better since they can affect changes better that way) and whenever practical (to the family) and posible try to leave the country to obtain knowledge or education so that when they come back they are loaded with ideas to help rebuild the country more efficiently.

If a new breed of rebels is on the top government level then implementation of the "dreams" to rebuild the country will be easy. Influencing family values through government programs and education, setting fair rules in trade places(work place) and promoting good citizenship by example I reckon would be an easy task for the "rebel".

I observed that filipino are so obsessed with nationalistic values. While most of it are good but some are counterproductive in which we need to give up. In an age when almost all information can be obtained in a click of a mouse we need to open our horizon to other modern civilization and embrace the good values that we see in them.

Although working your way from the bottom to top proved successful in many people's experiences but it doesnt always apply when we speak about the future of the nation.

Because I am fed up with the prevailing mindset of Filipinos… and I will continue in my rebellion until I succeed in changing the mindset of the next generation — beginning with my kids, then with my contemporaries who, like me, dreamed of having a decent nation, a proud race who can be equal with the rest of the world (if not better).

I am sooo sick of it too.. I mean that mentality!
