Passion to Succeed
“When you are full, you even hate honey. When you are hungry, even what is
bitter tastes sweet” (Proverbs 27:7)
What motivates people to succeed is “passion”… passion is also defined as “hunger”. In sports events, we often hear from game anchors that “the hungrier team gets the crown”.
When Filipino boxing hero Manny Pacquiao moved up in weight and fought Antonio Barrera of Mexico, as fellow Pinoy, I thought then, he is not yet ready– I am afraid for Manny because Barrera has the built and experience. But I was proven wrong. I underestimated the hunger and passion of Manny– he prepared, worked hard, got a plan, took the risk and made a step of faith… He won ! Though his gallant stand with another Mexican boxer, Eric Morales, is not enough, Manny was bloodied and defeated. After he was humbled, he is still determined to get a second crack. In spite of what he experienced, his defeat can’t quench his passion to succeed. Manny practiced harder and the second time Manny fought Eric Morales, he won by knock out.Passion– to a hungry person, the choice of food is not important, he will eat what ever food is available. What drives people to his destiny is his hunger. Unless a man knew the purpose for his existence, there is no hunger. Success is not measured by money, or the title attached to a name, but the fulfillment of one’s calling, the value you add to other people’s lives.
When there are setbacks, like in the case of Manny Pacquiao, it is passion that will keep us going.
The absence of passion may be an indication that he is in a wrong field. The person must unclutter his heart and search for meaning in this meaningless world. Treasures are kept in man’s heart.
